Biographie
Rhona Rees is an award-winning performer, writer, and director with over 30 years of experience both on camera and behind the microphone. Beginning her career as a child actor in Australia, she landed her first role at age 11, starring alongside Australian screen icon Ernie Dingo. She built a successful career in Australia with lead and supporting roles in series such as Ocean Girl, Blabbermouth and Stickybeak, and High Flyers before relocating to Vancouver, BC, in 2012.
Rhona is widely recognized for her voice acting, contributing to animated series like The Dragon Prince, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Lego Ninjago, Polly Pocket, and Littlest Pet Shop. She has also lent her voice to video games, including Rainbow Six Siege, Rainbow Six Extraction, and Dragalia Lost, as well as hundreds of commercials for brands such as Hyundai, Chromebook, Telus, Huggies, and Manulife.
In 2021, Rhona expanded into voice directing. Her credits include My First Barbie: Happy DreamDay, Isabel and Nicki's Super Duper Twin Adventures, and Draculaura's Birthday Surprise for Mattel; Another Code for Nintendo; and Rocket Learns to Read for PBS. As an emerging screenwriter and director, her short film FREYA has won multiple awards at international film festivals like Newport Beach Film Festival, Fantasia Film Festival, and Etheria. The film was acquired by CBC Gem in Canada and Dust worldwide, excluding Canada. In 2022, Rhona won the AACTA & Monster Pictures 'Mother' pitch competition and is currently developing FREYA into a feature film. Her team also won best pitch at the Frontières international co-production market in 2023, and the script earned best sci-fi at the Final Draft Big Break Screenwriting Competition that same year.
Rhona’s following short film, Call Button, which she wrote and directed, has screened at festivals including Mammoth Film Festival, Sonoma International Film Festival, and Dam Short Fest. In 2024, she received a grant from Creative BC to write her second feature, Renaissance Woman, a time-travel comedy exploring body politics. Rhona also writes for animation and developed a 2D kids’ series with WildBrain Studios in 2020. She is an improviser performing at Tightrope Theatre in Vancouver, a dialect coach, casting assistant, voice teacher, and co-creator of Mistressclass, an educational webinar series for the film industry.
