Biographie
Lisa Hammer is a multi-talented writer, director, producer, editor, actress, and singer/composer. She is best known as the voice of Triana Orpheus on the Adult Swim animated series The Venture Bros, as well as for her prolific career as a singer-songwriter. Her film Empire of Ache was recently showcased at MoMA and Nighthawk Cinemas as part of the "Future of Film is Female" series, and is featured in Heidi Honeycutt's book I Spit on Your Celluloid: The History of Women Directing Horror Movies. Additionally, it was acquired by the Getty Museum's Feminist Film Collection, curated by Miranda July.
Hammer has directed independent feature films including Pox and Pus$bucket, as well as the CMJ Film Festival winner The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch, which she co-directed with James Merendino (SLC Punk). She has edited numerous projects such as Punk's Dead: SLC Punk 2, Montauk (starring Molly Ringwald), Out of Order (featuring Brooke Shields), Before Someone Gets Hurt, Great Kills, The History of Steampunk: a documentary, and her musical comedy feature The Sisters Plotz (with Eve Plumb). The Sisters Plotz premiered at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood and Anthology Film Archives in New York. Her original series Maybe Sunshine is available on Seeka TV (ROKU).
Lisa has collaborated on multiple projects with Ben Edlund (The Tick, Firefly, Angel, Supernatural) and Doc Hammer (The Venture Bros). She created The Pox Show which stars H. Jon Benjamin (Archer, Jon Benjamin Has a Van), Jonathan Katz (Dr. Katz), and Arden Myrin (Orange Is the New Black, Inside Amy Schumer). Lisa also directed and produced the award-winning weekly New York cable TV show Turn of the Century, featuring Dame Darcy, Courtney Love, and Thurston Moore; the show is currently a top series on Nightflight Plus.
She has directed notable actors including Clayne Crawford (Jericho, Swimfan), Lisa D'Amato (America's Next Top Model), Jimmy Duval (Donnie Darko, SLC Punk!), Russell Sams (The Rules of Attraction), Eve Plumb (The Brady Bunch), Allen Lewis Rickman (Boardwalk Empire, A Serious Man), Yelena Shmulenson (Boardwalk Empire, A Serious Man, OITNB), and Aryn Cole (All My Children).
Her films have received awards from the CMJ Film Festival, Telly Awards, Hugo Awards, It Came From Kuchar Film Festival, Chicago Underground Film Festival, Canada International Screenplay Festival, Ontario Film Festival, Antimatter, Indieworks, New York Press, and many others. She has presented one-woman shows at the Olympia Film Festival, Perth International Film Festival, and the Duolun Art Museum in Shanghai, China.
Recent projects include serving as cinematographer, actor, and co-creator on James Merendino's Great Kills (available on Roku, Tubi, and Amazon), producer and editor for Levi Wilson's Luke and Emma and a Gas Station on Franklin Avenue, which was acquired by AMC+, executive producer of Montauk starring Molly Ringwald, her award-winning screenplay Ghostapus, on-set and assistant editor for Out of Order starring Brendan Routh and Brooke Shields, producer on Suh Buh Duh starring Lou Diamond Phillips and Eric Roberts, and directing her own female-body-horror film Under the Midnight Sun featuring Kevin Corrigan, Ruben Rabasa, and Eve Plumb.
Her acting credits include The Venture Bros, Great Kills, 90 Days of Games, Bull, Sex and the City, The Networker, Monster Hunt, The Sisters Plotz, Beneath the Black Moon, Maybe Sunshine, The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch, Washington Heights, Frankenstein and the Monster from Blood Cove, Venus ATTACKS!, Mary Knows Best, Distraction, Terror Lab, GoDaddy commercial: Related, Pox, Pus$bucket, Rub, Period Piece, and numerous theatre productions.
Lisa was the lead singer of gothic rock bands Mors Syphilitica, The N.C.S., and Requiem In White. As a passionate singer and composer, she has released CDs on Projekt Records and formed the indie band Radiana with guitarist/composer Steven Deal (Chopper/Bleached Black) and The Terror Twins: Bloody Ballads with her brother James Merendino. Her music has been featured in films such as Alucard, Montauk, Until Someone Gets Hurt, Punk's Dead, Beneath the Black Moon, Idle Worship, and Pox. Radiana's music is also featured in the original series Maybe Sunshine, directed by her husband Levi Wilson.
