Biographie
Anil P. Bajaj was born in Bombay, India, to Bindoo and Prabhu Bajaj, originally from Tamil Nadu and Shikarpur, Pakistan, respectively. Growing up in a middle-class family, his parents encouraged him to become a doctor or engineer; however, by age eight, he was captivated by a man working behind a camera, directing actors and creating movie magic.
Bajaj studied directing and acting at the Film and Television Institute of India, learning techniques such as the Stanislavsky Method and training at the Roshan Taneja School of Acting. He then spent seven years assisting various renowned directors across India.
In 1990, he moved to America. Initially unable to pursue filmmaking, he started several businesses in New Orleans, Louisiana, until Hurricane Katrina struck, leading to the looting and loss of all his ventures.
This turning point inspired him to follow his true passion. He secured roles in multiple films and, in 2012, wrote his first screenplay, The Last Fare. Subsequent projects include Timely The Deal, Hey Where You At?, and The Beggar's Curse—all produced in 2021—showcasing his talents in acting, writing, and directing. Upcoming projects in pre-production include Suicide, House Arrest, Comprise Verdict, and Jars of Happiness.
His favorite directors include David Mamet, Brian De Palma, Satyajit Ray, Sydney Lumet, and Alfred Hitchcock, from whom he draws inspiration for their use of limited settings combined with deep emotional exploration and intense relationship dynamics.
Bajaj’s films often aim to raise public awareness, while his directing style is known for passionately guiding actors through the emotional journeys of their characters. He ensures performers experience every subtle emotion while maintaining comfort on camera.
His Indian roots and experiences bring a Bollywood-like emotional depth to his work, blended with influences from his life in America, resulting in a unique Hollywood-Bollywood artistic fusion.
Beyond writing and directing, Bajaj speaks seven languages and understands eleven, which enhances his abilities as both actor and director.
