Biographie
Mariano Calasso is an International Emmy award-winning writer, IP creator, showrunner, and head writer with a strong background in executive programming and promotions. He has worked with leading networks in the USA Hispanic Market and Latin America. Mariano has successfully developed key scripted and unscripted formats that have become some of the longest-running franchises in these markets, including "El Señor de los Cielos," "Nuestra Belleza Latina," "12 Corazones," "Sala de Parejas" (now "Caso Cerrado"), and "Protagonista de Novela" (now "Protagonista de Nuestra Tele" and "Protagonistas de la Fama"). His creative expertise spans fiction, variety, and special show formats.
As co-creator of Telemundo's top original franchise, "El Señor de los Cielos," Mariano Calasso contributed to a #1 hit series and Emmy Award winner that achieved record-breaking ratings in the U.S. market, regardless of language. He also created and served as head writer for the series "Guerra de Idolos." At Televisa networks in Mexico City, he led the creative development and production of TV formats within the International Branded Entertainment division. Before Televisa, he was Director of Entertainment Content at Telemundo Network, overseeing all on-air content to maintain consistency across programming. Additionally, he was Executive Producer of the "Premios Billboard a la Música Latina" in 2007 and 2008.
Prior to Telemundo, Mariano was Director of Creative Development for Univision Networks, managing creative programming for Univision, TeleFutura, and Galavision, where he created the reality franchise "Nuestra Belleza Latina." He joined Univision from Promofilm, where he served as Vice President of Non-Fiction Projects in Caracas and Miami, overseeing development and production of non-fiction programs. At Promofilm, he co-created and developed "12 Corazones," "Sala de Parejas" (now "Caso Cerrado"), and created "Protagonistas de Novela" (now "Protagonista de Nuestra Tele" and "Protagonistas de la Fama"), the region’s most successful reality show.
