Lauren Kate is a globally bestselling author of young adult fiction, with her works translated into more than thirty languages. Her titles include The Betrayal of Natalie Hargrove and Fallen, the latter reaching #3 on The New York Times Best Seller List for children's chapter books on January 8, 2010. By April 6, 2011, Fallen had remained on the list for one year and four months, with only brief interruptions.
Torment, the sequel to Fallen, was released on September 28, 2010, debuting at #1 on The New York Times Bestseller List, while Fallen held the #2 spot that same week. Torment maintained its #1 position through October 17. The paperback edition of Fallen also debuted at #1. The third book in the series, Passion, was published on June 14, 2011. On the same day, a new edition of Natalie Hargrove was released alongside the paperback edition of Torment. Passion reached #7 on the USA Today Bestseller List on June 23, 2011, and on July 3, 2011, its success earned the Fallen series a spot in the New York Times Bestseller List’s Series section, entering at #2 behind The Hunger Games. These books have also topped bestseller lists in numerous other countries.
Fallen in Love, a collection of novellas set in the Middle Ages exploring the backstories of key Fallen characters, was scheduled for release in January 2012. The series' final book, Rapture, was set to be published in June 2012.
Disney acquired the film rights to the entire Fallen series on the day of the first book's release, December 9, 2009.
