Biographie
Romero, originally from Santa Cruz, California, graduated cum laude from San Francisco State University's innovative Film Studies program. He then moved south to further his education at the renowned American Film Institute in Los Angeles.
During his time at AFI, Romero wrote four short film scripts, two of which were produced as second-year thesis projects. That same year, he received the Sherill Corwin Screenwriter of the Year Award for his Master's thesis screenplay, "Dead Celebrities."
Less than a year after earning his MFA in screenwriting from AFI, Romero sold his first spec screenplay, "Lowlifes," a satire inspired by his retail work experiences, to Twentieth Century Fox, with Randa Haines set to produce.
Following this, he took on several feature assignments including "Cinderella's Revenge" at Columbia, "Sorority Secrets" at Paramount, and "Downsized" for independent producer Tom Barad. Additionally, his AFI thesis script "Dead Celebrities" was optioned by the comic book company Top Cow Productions.
In television, Romero wrote a critically acclaimed episode of Telemundo's groundbreaking Spanish-language sitcom "Los Beltrán" and was the inaugural writer for MTV's original musical comedy, "The American Mall." Based on his spec screenplay "Lowlifes," "The American Mall" was produced by Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush, executive producers of "High School Musical," and directed by award-winning filmmaker Shawn Ku.
Beyond screenwriting, Romero co-founded Minutia Films in 2004, an independent production division of the CGI effects company Luma Pictures, where he served as Director of Development.
"Not Forgotten," co-written by Romero and producer/director Dror Soref, will mark his first produced feature film.
