Erik Athavale (pronounced 'ah-TUV-lay') was born in Windsor, Ontario, to Emily, a Canadian of Polish heritage, and Ashok, an immigrant from India.
After discovering a love for acting during high school, Athavale enrolled at the University of Winnipeg, initially majoring in Education—motivated by his parents, both educators—with a minor in Theatre. Midway through, he shifted his focus and earned a marketing degree from the University of Manitoba.
In 2012, Athavale recommitted to acting and has since become a sought-after supporting and character actor in television and film. Recently, he completed supporting roles in feature films such as the upcoming "November 1963" (directed by Oscar nominee and Palme d'Or winner Roland Joffé), the AGBO-produced horror film "All Fun and Games," and the thriller "Bed Rest." On television, he has appeared in recurring, guest, and featured roles on the MGM+ anthology series "American Hostage," CBS's "Ghosts," the acclaimed CTV comedy "Acting Good," CTV/The CW's "The Spencer Sisters," CBC's "Burden of Truth," and CityTV's "Sunnyside." Notably, Athavale starred in the internationally acclaimed short film "Wolf in Dude's Clothing," which boasts over 30 million global mentions on TikTok and highlights his ability to express deep emotion through facial expressions and gestures.
