Biographie
Kenny is an acclaimed television and film director. Recent projects include the feature film Dirt Road to Lafayette by James Kelman and the 6 x 1-hour thriller Acceptable Risk by Ron Hutchinson for Saffron Pictures/RTE/Canada. Past work features the BAFTA and RTS-winning series The Cops and Buried, both for Tony Garnett; Gas Attack, written by Rowan Joffe for Channel 4, which earned the Michael Powell Award at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, the Special Jury Prize at the Courchevel Film Festival, and the Best Actor Award, shared by the three lead actresses, at the Cherbourg Film Festival. He also directed Summer for Sixteen Films, which won BAFTAs for Best Direction, Best Film, and Best Actor for Robert Carlyle at the EIFF, as well as Best Film in the Alice in the Cities section of the Rome International Film Festival. Yasmin, written by Simon Beaufoy, received the Audience Award at Dinard, the Ecumenical Award at Locarno, and multiple Best Actor awards. Other credits include the first two parts of Charlie, a 3 x 90-minute political drama for RTE nominated for Best Drama at the Irish Film and Television Awards; The Ark, a standalone TV film for Red Planet/BBC1; Paddington, a BBC1 TV film about the Paddington rail crash; Magnificent 7 for BBC1, a TV film about a family on the autism spectrum that won the Signis Prix at the Festival de Television Monte Carlo; as well as episodes of Case Histories, Spooks, Paranoid, and Being Human. Kenny also directed the short documentary The Right to Life, part of the anthology film The Ten Commandments, inspired by the UN Declaration of Human Rights. His theatre directing includes A Place with the Pigs by Athol Fugard, which won a Fringe First award, Joe Orton's Loot, and several new plays.
