Biographie
Josh MacDonald is a celebrated screenwriter, playwright, and actor.
He wrote the feature film "The Corridor" (IFC Films; D Films), which earned the Next Wave Award for Best Screenplay at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas. He also penned the feature "Faith, Fraud & Minimum Wage" (eOne Entertainment), adapted from his stage play "Halo."
"Halo" has reached its sixth printing and has been staged by theatre companies across North America. His plays "Halo," "Whereverville," and "The Mystery Play" are published by Talonbooks and are included in Canadian high school and university curricula. Josh received the Tom Hendry Prize from the Playwrights Guild of Canada for his adaptation of Robert Cormier's young adult novel #IAmTheCheese, which also won Outstanding Adaptation at the Theatre Nova Scotia Merritt Awards.
As writer-director, Josh created the short horror film "Game," which has won awards at international festivals, was featured as a Vimeo Staff Pick and Short of the Week, acquired by Blumhouse's Crypt TV, and viewed over a million times online. He co-produced and co-starred in the short film "Little Grey Bubbles" (directed by Charles Wahl), which premiered at SXSW and also amassed over a million online views.
Josh has written episodic television for the National Film Board, Smithsonian Channel, Reelz, CBC TV & Radio, Blue Ant, and Vision TV. He teaches screenwriting at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) and has taught playwriting at the Fountain School of Performing Arts (Dalhousie University).
He frequently works as a dramaturge and story editor, recently contributing to Taylor Olson's "Bone Cage," which received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
An award-winning actor for stage and screen, Josh's recent performances include Neptune Theatre's productions of "The Play That Goes Wrong" and "Lo (Or Dear Mr. Wells)," recurring roles on CBC TV's "Moonshine" and CTV's "Sullivan's Crossing," a comically micro-aggressive teacher in Cineplex's feature film "The Queen of My Dreams," and a romantic interest opposite Chelsea Peretti in the feature film "Spinster.
