Biographie
Australian native Adrian Carr is a multi-award-winning director and film editor, renowned for his work on "The Man from Snowy River" featuring Kirk Douglas, Tom Selleck's western "Quigley Down Under," the WWI epic "The Lighthorsemen," and the popular sci-fi adventure "D.A.R.Y.L."
Adrian directed "Now and Forever," starring Cheryl Ladd, the martial arts adventure-action "The Sword of Bushido" set in Thailand, and the pilot along with early episodes of the iconic "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" for 20th Century Fox. He also directed several episodes of Warner Bros International TV series "The New Adventures of Robin Hood," filmed in Lithuania.
He then ventured into directing live-action sequences for groundbreaking Tex Murphy computer adventure games: "The Pandora Directive," featuring Barry Corbin, Kevin McCarthy, and Tanya Roberts (winner of Game of the Year 1996); "Overseer," starring Michael York, Henry Darrow, and Richard Norton; and "Tesla Effect: A Tex Murphy Adventure," with Steve Valentine, June Lockhart, and Jodi Russell (winner of the Adventure Gamers Aggie Award for Best Adventure Game Character and 10 Reader's Choice awards including Adventure Game of the Year and Best Traditional Adventure). "The Pandora Directive" was ranked #9 in AdventureGamers’ Top 100 All-Time Adventure Games in 2011.
Adrian also directed voice performances by John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Christian Slater, Anne Archer, Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Warner, and Lacey Chabert for the 3-D IMAX animation project "Quantum Quest" (also known as "2004: A Light Knight's Odyssey").
He followed this with "Mind Games," a hustle-style drama-comedy created by a first-time writer and producer.
Two of Adrian's unsettling dramatic shorts earned awards: "Permanent Stays" received an ACS Gold Award for Best Drama in Australia, and "Blood Makes Noise" won Best Suspense at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
Recently, he directed and edited "SOLUS," a 45-minute sci-fi pilot that garnered Best Short Film, Best Male Director, Best Visual Effects, Best Music Score, Best Sound Design, and Best Film of the Month for June at the 2021 LA Shorts Festival.
During the COVID lockdown, Adrian wrote, directed, and edited the intense dramatic short "When the Chips Are Down," starring Larry Thomas (Seinfeld's Soup Nazi). This short was accepted into the Pasadena International Film Festival.
Beyond directing and editing, Adrian is an accomplished stills photographer with a decade as the official photographer for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts/Los Angeles. He has captured headshots for hundreds of actors and actresses.
He won a Bronze Award for Most Original Calendar with his "Naked Cigar Calendar" at the National Calendar Awards and is working on a coffee-table book titled "The Naked Cigar" featuring new photographs in a similar style. He also completed a coffee-table book, "A Ten-Year Retrospective of BAFTA Los Angeles Q&As and Events."
Adrian currently has four feature films in development: "A Dolphin in Our Lake," starring Noah Wyle, scheduled to shoot in September 2026; "PeeksKill," a supernatural-horror-mystery; "Do It Scared," winner of the 2022 Pasadena International Film Festival Award for Best Feature Screenplay, a faith-based film based on the true story of Rob Galea, who became both a rock star and a world-famous priest; and "Stoker’s Boat," which he is directing and co-writing. This epic true story follows Lt. Comm. Henry Stoker and the AE2 submarine crew on a daring mission to breach the heavily fortified Dardanelles Strait, a feat considered one of the greatest achievements in submarine warfare and a Gallipoli legend.
