Biographie
Ahmed Ramzy, a renowned Egyptian actor, was born in Alexandria in 1930. He starred in leading roles across numerous Egyptian films during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Born Ramzy Mahmud Bayumi to Dr. Mahmoud Bayoumi, a prominent Egyptian orthopedist, and Helen MacKay, a Scottish woman, he faced early hardship when his father died in 1939 after losing a fortune of 250,000 Egyptian Pounds in the stock market, leaving his mother to raise him alone. Ramzy graduated from the prestigious Victoria College, where he met Omar Sharif, who became his lifelong friend. Initially enrolling in medical school, Ramzy studied there for three years before transferring to the Faculty of Commerce, which he ultimately left to pursue acting. He had one older brother, Dr. Hassan Bayoumi, nine years his senior, who became a practicing doctor in London following their father's profession. Ramzy married three times and had three children: two daughters and a son. His acting career began in 1955 when producer Helmy Halim discovered him and cast him in his debut role as "Ramzy" in Ayyamna al-Holwa (Our Best Days), alongside Faten Hamama, Abdel Halim Hafez, and Omar Sharif. The film was a major box office success. Throughout the late 1950s and into the 1970s, Ramzy appeared in many films, often portraying the charming playboy and womanizer. His final role was in the 2007 TV series Hanan Wa Haneen, starring alongside Omar Sharif. His close circle of friends included Omar Sharif, Faten Hamama, Rushdi Abaza, and Saleh Selim. Notable films in his career include Our Best Days, Dark Waters, Hamidu's Son, Girls of Today, and Adrift on the Nile. Ahmed Ramzy passed away on September 28, 2012, at the age of 82 due to a severe brain clot.
