Biographie
Monnae Michaell’s career encompasses TV, film, theater, animation, and commercials. She earned an NAACP Theatre Award nomination for her portrayal of Tanya in August Wilson’s King Hedley III (Mark Taper) and was considered for an Emmy nomination for her role as Lisa Jefferson in Flight '93. Some of her notable roles include Annie on American Dreams, Judge Bass on The Defenders, Half George in "the road weeps, the well runs dry," and Citizen 2 in "Citizen: An American Lyric." Her television credits also include appearances on The Office, Nip/Tuck, The Young & The Restless, The Shield, The Practice, and many others. Monnae studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute through New York University and began her career in musical theatre as an actress, singer, and dancer. She has performed in numerous musical venues, and her one-woman show, presented at various NYC clubs, won a Bistro Award for Best Newcomer. Additionally, she has taught creative improvisational workshops for children aged 6-17. Her work extends to commercials, voice-overs, industrials, CD-ROMs, and animated films. She is the voice of Aniu, Balto’s mother, in the animated film Balto II: Wolf Quest.
