Leann Lei is an actor, filmmaker whose work connects audiences through stories that inspire reflection and spark change. Driven by a passion for cinema's transformative power, she crafts films that offer insight, comfort, and courage, leaving a lasting impact. Her journey began in college, captivated by a film's opening scene that zoomed from outer space to a person's cells, revealing life's fleeting yet significant nature, a moment that continues to shape her storytelling.
Raised in China by a math teacher father and an entrepreneur-homemaker mother, Leann learned precision, resilience, and creativity, honing her narrative skills with her two younger siblings. Her classical music training in opera and piano across China, Austria, and the United States, where she earned a Master of Arts, deepened her emotional storytelling. Fluent in Mandarin, English, Cantonese, and conversational German, she weaves diverse cultures into her films.
Leann’s path was a series of defiant leaps. She walked away from not one, not two, but three tenured teaching positions, each time choosing uncertainty over safety because something louder was calling. Higher education gave her knowledge; Vienna, Austria’s vibrant artistry whispered that art was worth risking everything for; Los Angeles answered with heat, hustle, and possibility. She listened.
After moving to Los Angeles, she collaborated with acclaimed filmmakers, acted in diverse roles, and directed and produced independent films. Her work is now recognized at festivals and celebrates our shared, remarkable existence.
In 2018 everything shifted again, this time forever. That was the year Leann surrendered her life to Jesus Christ and got saved. From that moment, the direction of her work became clear. She began steadily turning her talent, experience, and platform toward making faith-based films, stories that unapologetically share the gospel, reveal the love of Jesus, and lead people to salvation. For Leann, every film she makes is an opportunity and an invitation to be found, forgiven, and changed for eternity.
