Biographie
Alan Tang, born Tang Kwong Wing on September 20, 1946, in Guangzhou, PRC, was the youngest of four siblings, with two older brothers and one older sister.
He received his early education at New Method College, also known as Sun Fat College. After graduating with a degree in Chinese History, Alan pursued a career teaching the subject.
At 16, he landed his first leading role in the 1964 film The Student Prince. This opportunity came after friends at his secondary school showed his photo to the filmmakers. His performance earned him the nickname "The Prince."
During the 1970s, Tang reportedly earned HK$150,000 per film due to his immense popularity. In a 1974 interview, he revealed he was working on six films simultaneously but only filmed one per day, which posed challenges for producers. That same year, he both starred in and produced Splendid Love in Winter alongside Chen Chen. Alan mentioned being so exhausted from managing his businesses that he struggled to converse with Janet at night. On another occasion, he recounted suffering from insomnia while separated from Janet, as he was filming in Taiwan and she was in Hong Kong. Given the intense media scrutiny of their relationship, it is a testament to their bond that Alan and Janet have remained together through the years.
Tang gained significant fame after moving to Taiwan, where he starred in numerous dramas and romances, frequently co-starring with Brigitte Lin in films like Run Lover Run. Over his career in Taiwan, he appeared in more than 60 films.
As his star began to wane, he transitioned into film production, including producing Wong Kar-wai’s As Tears Go By and Days of Being Wild. He continued acting, primarily in triad-themed movies such as Flaming Brothers, Gangland Odyssey, Return Engagement, Gun N' Rose, and The Black Panther Warriors.
