Marty Erlichman is widely regarded as one of the entertainment industry’s most esteemed personal managers. He is best known for discovering Barbra Streisand and managing her career from 1961 to the present. With Erlichman’s steadfast support and guidance, Streisand transformed from a hopeful New York nightclub singer into a global icon, achieving remarkable success on stage, screen, records, as a screenwriter, songwriter, film director, and New York Times bestselling author. Her rare concert tours, all initiated and executive produced by Erlichman, have broken box office records, and she is recognized by the RIAA as the top-selling female recording artist of all time. Streisand has earned every major entertainment award, including multiple Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes, Grammys, and a Tony Award for her Broadway work.
Erlichman’s keen talent-spotting extends across various genres. Beyond his long partnership with Streisand, he has managed other prominent artists and entertainment figures. Early in his career, he worked with historic blues singer Josh White and the popular Irish folk group The Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem, whom Bob Dylan credits as a major influence. In comedy, he managed the acclaimed Joan Rivers, often hailed as the most significant female comedian of her generation, as well as the versatile comedic TV and film star Chevy Chase, known for Saturday Night Live and hits like Foul Play, Fletch, and Caddyshack. One of Erlichman’s most unique managerial roles was in sports, where he managed George Foreman, the legendary #1 Heavyweight Champion of the World. As a filmmaker, Erlichman produced the Streisand comedy For Pete’s Sake, directed by renowned British filmmaker Peter Yates (Bullet, The Deep, The Dresser). His other productions include the noir classic Breathless, starring Richard Gere, and the mystery thriller Coma, starring Michael Douglas and written and directed by Michael Crichton (The Andromeda Strain, Jurassic Park, E.R.). Erlichman also executive produced the popular Ernest comedy film franchise, which he later sold to the Walt Disney Company. The series includes Ernest Goes to Camp, Ernest Goes to Jail, and Ernest Scared Stupid.
In television, Erlichman has earned an Emmy, Cable Ace Award, and the prestigious Peabody Award for executive producing Barbra Streisand’s acclaimed TV specials. These include the multi-Emmy-winning My Name Is Barbra and Color Me Barbra, as well as the celebrated concert specials A Happening in Central Park, Barbra: The Concert, Timeless, Back to Broadway, and the highly rated Netflix special The Music...The Memories...The Magic!
