Biographie
Born in Queens, New York, and having lived in several states within the tri-state area, Tim Carr began his career at various radio stations, creating public service announcements and stepping in for on-air talent when needed.
This experience led Carr to Baltimore, Maryland, where he connected with the casting directors of the television series "Homicide: Life On The Street." He secured small but recurring roles and spent several years working alongside esteemed cast members like Emmy winner Andre Braugher, Clark Johnson, Richard Belzer, and Academy Award winner Melissa Leo.
These opportunities opened doors worldwide, spanning print, film, television, and commercials. During this period, Carr also dedicated time to volunteering with The Special Olympics and remains an active advocate for the organization.
While in New York City, Carr appeared as a trainee on the TV series "The $treet," alongside Rick Hoffman, Tom Everett Scott, Christian Campbell, and Academy Award winner Jennifer Connelly. He also portrayed "Colton" on ABC's soap opera "All My Children." Inspired by filmmakers such as Steve Martin, Spike Lee, Richard Linklater, Edward Burns, Kevin Smith, Billy Wilder, and Kathryn Bigelow, Carr wrote and directed his debut film, "The Wrong Fortune Cookie," a light comedy that he self-financed and screened internationally. The film was produced by Calvin Hill, a frequent collaborator, and featured actress Jacci Garton, whom Carr married in July 2004.
Following the release of "The Wrong Fortune Cookie," filmmaker JJ Garvine cast Carr as "David Easter" in the film "13th Grade." Carr and Garvine have continued to collaborate, including on the film "Film Hawk," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
After completing his role on "All My Children" and with "13th Grade" in limited release, Carr teamed up again with Calvin Hill for the Showtime pilot "Letting Go," co-starring veteran actors such as Matt Myers and Tony Devon. Carr also met with Sylvester Stallone and appeared as "Buddy" in "Rocky Balboa," maintaining ongoing connections with Stallone and Milo Ventimiglia. He later appeared alongside Jason Statham and Academy Award nominee Chris Sarandon in "Safe."
Soon after, Carr collaborated with filmmaker Jacob Stargrove on the horror/comedy "Down With The Boogey." Following its release, Carr spent several years working on television pilots both on screen and behind the scenes. He wrote and directed "A Deeper Shade of Soul," which was nominated for Best Screenplay at the Hypefest Awards, the award-winning football biopic "Leaf," and "The Other Ripken," starring musician G Love, which premiered at the Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California. Additionally, he created two documentary shorts: "Sunday in Philly," which premiered at The Human Rights Film Festival in Seoul, South Korea, in March 2020, and "August," a film exploring how a blood bank operates after a tragedy. Carr also wrote the international drama "Suhani," directed by Emmy nominee Mauro Giuffrida.
While based in New York City, Carr joined the improv and sketch comedy group The Upright Citizens Brigade, performing numerous live comedy shows and events nationwide. He described live comedy as "invigorating, anything can happen and it often does. There's nothing like it."
In Philadelphia, Carr co-created the documentary series "The Laff House Stories," highlighting the legendary comedy venue The Laff House. The series featured Carr alongside notable comedians including Kevin Hart, Deon Cole, Michael Blackson, and Reginald Ballard.
After completing "The Laff House Stories," Carr and Jacob Stargrove collaborated on Stargrove's passion project, the TV series "The Grounders." The series reunited Carr with his "Other Ripken" co-star Adam Way, featured sneak peeks in Philadelphia and Los Angeles, and received seven nominations at the Baltimore New Web Festival.
With six to ten projects in various stages of development, Carr has also founded The LUCY Initiative, which donates time, money, and resources to charitable organizations worldwide. He has traveled to Washington, D.C., to meet with Congress in support of the Surfrider Foundation, Oceana, and UNICEF.
Both on screen and behind the scenes, locally and internationally, Tim Carr remains one of the most dedicated talents in the industry.
