Rachel House (Kai Tahu, Te Atiawa, Ngati Mutunga) is a renowned New Zealand actor, writer, and director.
Her directorial debut feature film, 'The Mountain,' is set to premiere in Taranaki, Aotearoa New Zealand in 2024. While studying at Prague Film School, Rachel won Best Director and the audience award for two of her short films. She has since earned further accolades as a director, including recognition for the Te Reo Māori rendition of Troilus and Cressida performed at London's Globe Theatre.
Rachel’s extensive acting career covers film, television, and theatre. Recently, she appeared in HBO Max’s 'Our Flag Means Death 2,' Netflix’s 'Heartbreak High,' Apple TV+’s 'Foundation,' and the upcoming 'Time Bandits.' Her other notable acting roles include 'Moana,' 'Soul,' 'Thor: Ragnarok,' 'Boy,' 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople,' 'Penguin Bloom,' 'Cousins,' 'Millie Lies Low,' 'The Moon is Upside Down,' 'Next Goal Wins,' and 'The Portable Door.' She is also a distinguished voice artist, having featured in television shows such as 'Sherwood,' 'The Lion Guard,' 'Underground Uglies,' 'Amphibia,' 'Princess and Pony,' '100% Wolf,' and 'Koala Man.' As an acting coach, she has collaborated with Jane Campion on 'Top of the Lake' and 'The Power of the Dog,' and with Taika Waititi on 'Boy,' 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople,' 'Jojo Rabbit,' and 'Next Goal Wins.'
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to theatre, film, and television, Rachel has received an Arts Laureate, the NZ Order of Merit, the 'Mana Wahine' award from WIFT NZ, and the Te Waipuna a Rangi (Matariki Awards) as both an actor and director.
