Nick Bailey is an American filmmaker, writer, and editor whose work spans independent narrative film, documentary storytelling, and television. Known for taking on multiple creative roles behind the camera, Bailey has built a career grounded in independent filmmaking-often writing, directing, producing, and editing his own projects to maintain a distinctive creative voice.
Bailey’s newest film, She Was Here, is a documentary exploring the life and legacy of child actress Heather O’Rourke, best known for her role in the Poltergeist films. Serving as director, cinematographer, producer, and editor, Bailey assembled the film using interviews, archival material, and personal recollections to examine O’Rourke’s impact on Hollywood and the lasting cultural fascination surrounding her life. The film represents Bailey’s most ambitious documentary project to date and reflects his ongoing interest in the stories behind fame and the realities of growing up in the entertainment industry.
Earlier in his career, Bailey gained recognition with the feature drama Diary of an Ex-Child Star (2010), which he wrote and directed. The film follows a teenage actress as she adapts to normal life after her successful television career ends, highlighting the emotional and social challenges faced by young performers transitioning out of the spotlight. This turned into the aspiring television pilot, Growing Up Hollywood, that he created with 7th Heaven star, Beverley Mitchell.
Bailey continued developing projects across multiple genres throughout the early 2010s. His filmography includes The Killers in Connecticut (2012), as well as independent productions such as Ghosts That Hunt Back, Another Zombie Flick, Zombie Doomsday, and the short film Put Out the Light. Across these projects, he frequently served in multiple capacities-writing, directing, editing, and producing-demonstrating a hands-on approach common in independent filmmaking.
In television, Bailey wrote and directed episodes of the series Life on Our Own (2015), further expanding his work into episodic storytelling.
