Biographie
Director and writer for film, theatre, and television. His debut feature film as director and writer, "Malu," premiered in the Sundance World Competition in 2024 and competed at numerous festivals including Hong Kong, Durban, San Diego, Melbourne, and New Directors New Films (New York). He has written and directed eight short films, which have been officially selected at international festivals such as Venice, Locarno, Oberhausen, Torino, Huelva, and Cinéma du Réel. His short film "Se Por Acaso," shot and edited under the close supervision of Abbas Kiarostami, premiered at Locarno in 2016. Another short, "O Teu Sorriso," was part of Venice's official competition in 2009 and won multiple awards in Brazil, including Best Film at Rio de Janeiro and Gramado. As a screenwriter, he collaborated with director Ruy Guerra and wrote "Aspirantes" (Hopefuls), a feature film by Ives Rosenfeld that won the Carte Blanche prize at the 2014 Locarno Film Festival and several awards in Brazil. He has also worked as Assistant Director, Casting Director, and Acting Coach for Brazilian filmmakers Karim Ainouz, Jonathan Nossiter, Marcelo Gomes, Sergio Machado, Lúcia Murat, and Cao Guimarães, as well as theatre directors Enrique Diaz and Bia Lessa. His professional stage directing debut was Harold Pinter's "Old Times," which opened in Rio de Janeiro in 2011 and São Paulo in 2012. He has directed various TV series and theatre productions under the guidance of directors Luiz Fernando Carvalho, Maurício Farias, and Anna Muylaert, among others. He participated in Lincoln Center’s Director’s Lab residency (New York, 2012) and the Berlinale Talent Campus. A graduate of the Cuban Film School EICTV with a degree in Film Directing, he teaches courses in film directing, acting for film, and screenwriting at institutions across Brazil, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic.
