Biography
Ken Webster (born July 29, 1957, in Port Arthur, Texas) serves as the artistic director of Hyde Park Theatre in Austin, Texas. He has earned 47 B. Iden Payne Award nominations and 20 Critics' Table Award nominations for his work in acting, directing, and producing. Webster has won fourteen B. Iden Payne Awards, including honors in 2008 for directing "Dog Sees God," in 2007 for "The Pillowman," in 2004 for "The Drawer Boy," and in 2003 for "Quake" at Hyde Park Theatre. Additionally, he received the 2007 Critics' Table Award for Outstanding Lead Acting for "St. Nicholas" and "Thom Pain (based on nothing)," and the 2003 Austin Critics’ Table award for directing "Something Someone Someplace Else" and "Marion Bridge" at Hyde Park Theatre. In 1999, he was awarded the Critics’ Table John Bustin Award for "conspicuous achievement."
His directing portfolio at Hyde Park Theatre includes "The Pillowman," "Thom Pain (based on nothing)," "My Child, My Child, My Alien Child," "You're No One's Nothing Special," "Lonely," "The Evidence of Silence Broken," "Chopper," "The Glory of Living," "Radio :30," "Ham," "Blue Surge," "Perdita," "Blur," and the world premiere of "Art Stripped Naked." His acting roles at the theatre feature performances in "Blackbird," "The Pillowman," "The Water Principle," "Vigil," and "House." On screen, Webster has appeared in films and television series such as "Waking Life," "A Scanner Darkly," and "Friday Night Lights." Notably, he is the only director to have won the B. Iden Payne Award for directing across three consecutive decades. In June 2006, he was inducted into the Austin Arts Hall of Fame. Webster is married to Austin actress Katherine Catmull.
He also recently provided voice work for "Metroid Prime 3: Corruption."
