Gary Yates, born in Montreal, Canada, is a film director based in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Since the early 1990s, Yates has worked in Canadian television and recently completed several feature films starring Kevin Pollak, including Niagara Motel (2005) and Seven Times Lucky (2004), the latter earning five Genie Award nominations.
As a director, screenwriter, and producer, Yates has achieved international critical acclaim, with his films premiering at renowned festivals such as Sundance, Berlin, Rotterdam, Karlovy-Vary, Shanghai, New York, and Toronto.
He has received numerous international awards for directing and screenwriting and was shortlisted for an Academy Award® nomination for Best Short Film with his surreal comedy Without Rockets.
