Biography
Eirini Koumarianou was a renowned Greek actress celebrated for her prolific work in theater, film, and television. A graduate of the Hellenic Conservatory, she emerged as a prominent figure in Greek theater. Her professional journey began in 1951, with frequent performances at the National Theatre of Greece, especially in ancient tragedies presented at the Epidaurus Festival. In cinema, she appeared in about 40 films, sharing the screen with legendary Greek actors such as Aliki Vougiouklaki, Jenny Karezi, and Rena Vlahopoulou. Her notable movie roles include Istoria mias zois (1965), Koritsia gia filima (1965), Tears for Electra (1966), Captain Fandis Bastounis (1968), I neraida kai to palikari (1969), The Lady and the Tramp (1970), Krima... to boi sou (1970), The Dodger (1971), and The Tycoon Lady (1971). She also took part in radio productions, notably the long-running Theater of Monday. On television, her appearances spanned numerous series such as Anastasia (1993), O prigipas (1996), Prodosia (1997), San adelfes (1999), Alma libre (2001), and I Love You - You Love Me (2000). In 2004, she had a minor role in Extremely Lucky (2003), which led to her casting in the popular series In the Nick of Time (2005) by Giorgos Kapoutzidis, where she starred alongside her close friend Efi Papatheodorou. The duo also appeared together in the Greek-American film Lost in Love (2005). In 2007, she joined the cast of Agatha Christie's Witness for the Prosecution, performing with Katia Dandoulaki, Danis Katranidis, and Kostas Spiropoulos. In honor of her legacy, a square in her birthplace of Galatsi was named after her in 2016.
