Biography
Christine Garrott is multi-talented, being the first active female performance artist in the Pittsburgh, PA experimental art scene; an actress who has worked on several features, TV shows, independents, industrials, a commercial, and a music video; and a multi-media visual artist. She was a stand-in for Sarah Jessica Parker in the pilot for Equal Justice, a stand-in for Sherilyn Fenn in The Assassination File, and a Stand-in for both Janeane Garofalo and Salma Hayek in Dogma. She has also worked on King Pin, Bob Roberts, Sudden Death, Iron Maze, Two Evil Eyes, Daddy Cool, The Young and The Restless, Bump in the Night, The Bride in Black, and Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, among other productions. In addition, she performed around thirty performance art pieces she created (sometimes collaborating with other artists, musicians, & performers--including her performance art duo, Two Blue Moons [or as fellow artist/musician, Karl Mullen, referred to it, "Poetry in Motion"], from 1989-1995. Her performance art involved any combination of the following: original movement, installations, spoken word, visual words/poetry, prerecorded or live original sound/music, video and visual art. She received a Performance Art Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Arts from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts in 1992. She was also the main performance artist in a group multi-media installation/performance with fellow artist/musician, Dennis Childers, at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts, in Pittsburgh, PA, funded by a grant from the Painted Bride in1992. She is also a visual artist, and her photographs, paintings and ceramic sculptures have been exhibited in various local galleries and art shows. She was a member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. She also studied filmmaking at Pittsburgh Filmmakers. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Arts, with a minor in English/Writing from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA (1988), graduating Phi Beta Kappa with honors in Communication Arts. She completed an internship in Directing for Theater at Chautauqua, NY (1986). She was also a newscaster for her college radio station, WARC. At Allegheny, she also studied voice, many different types of dance and art, was in chorus, studied piano and percussion, and played the lead role (Ginny) in a play called The Other Woman. She won a cold reading Shakespearian acting contest at a large festival in Western Pennsylvania. She was asked to model as the Virgin Mary by two different artists; one for a stained glass window, and one for a large ceramic sculpture. She also modeled in a runway hair show on the Gateway Clipper. She played Nico, of The Velvet Underground, in a recreation of an Andy Warhol Happening for an art history seminar at Allegheny (a foreshadowing of the multi-media art happenings she participated in after college in Pittsburgh). She was also offered, after an audition on video at an open casting call in Pittsburgh, to be represented by a top modeling/acting agency in New York City, but knew she couldn't afford to move there. Her deepest desire has always been to be in a position in life to make a significant positive difference in the world. But she, herself, has been in need of health care and help her entire adult life, due to having Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, Fibromyalgia, PCOS, Lyme Disease, and Environmental Illness. Being totally on her own, she has had to spend her life struggling for her own physical survival, instead, due to having no support from anyone else.
