Ariana Grande-Butera (born June 26, 1993) is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. Widely recognized as a pop icon and a major influence in popular music, Grande is celebrated for her four-octave vocal range, including her ability to sing in the whistle register. Her awards include two Grammy Awards, a Brit Award, two Billboard Music Awards, three American Music Awards, 39 Guinness World Records, and ten MTV Video Music Awards.
Grande started her career as a teenage actress in the Broadway musical 13 (2008). She gained prominence playing Cat Valentine on the Nickelodeon TV series Victorious (2010–2013) and its spin-off Sam & Cat (2013–2014). Signing with Republic Records, she released her debut studio album, Yours Truly (2013), a retro-pop and R&B record that debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Her second and third albums, My Everything (2014) and Dangerous Woman (2016), showcased a blend of pop, R&B, and electronic music, achieving global success and featuring hits like "Problem," "Break Free," "Bang Bang," "One Last Time," "Into You," and "Side to Side."
Personal challenges shaped Grande's trap-influenced albums Sweetener (2018) and Thank U, Next (2019). Sweetener earned her first Grammy Award, while Thank U, Next produced US number-one singles "Thank U, Next" and "7 Rings," making her the first solo artist to hold the top three spots on the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously. She later set the record for the most number-one debuts on the Hot 100 with the title track from her sixth album, Positions (2020), along with collaborations like "Stuck with U" and "Rain on Me." After a break from music, Grande released her seventh album, Eternal Sunshine (2024), which included the US number-one singles "Yes, And?" and "We Can't Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)." She returned to film acting in the political satire Don't Look Up (2021) and earned critical acclaim for her role as Glinda in the fantasy musical Wicked (2024), receiving a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
