Biography
Moon Moon Sen, originally named Srimati Sen, is an Indian politician and actress known for her work primarily in Bengali, Hindi, Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil cinema. She also appeared in the English film My Karma (2004) as Mrs. Malik. Over her career, she has acted in more than 60 films and 40 television shows.
Sen comes from a wealthy background; her father is from one of Kolkata's richest families, and her mother was a renowned actress of her era. She attended Loreto Convent in Shillong for her schooling and later graduated from Somerville College, Oxford. She earned a master's degree in Comparative Literature from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, and taught English at Ballygunge Government High School before embarking on her acting career.
Her debut in Bengali cinema was with the film Chorus (1975). She subsequently appeared in numerous Bengali films including Rajbadhu (1982), Rajeshwari (1983), Ajantay (1985), Baidurya Rahasya (1985), Byabadhan (1990), Hirer Angti (1992), Nil Nirjane (2003), Buno Haansh (2014), and Bhobishyoter Bhoot (2018).
Sen entered the Hindi film industry with Andar Baahar (1984) and acted in several films such as Musafir (1986), Pyar Ki Jeet (1987), Woh Phir Aayegi (1988), Jeevan Ek Sanghursh (1990), 100 Days (1991), Kucch To Hai (2003), It Was Raining That Night (2014), and Bow Barracks Forever (2004).
Her Malayalam film credits include Chiriyo Chiri (1982), Aval Kathirunnu Avanum (1986), and Gentle Man Security (1994). In Telugu cinema, she appeared in Yuga Purusha (1989) and Vaishakada Dinagalu (1993).
In March 2014, Sen joined the All India Trinamool Congress and won a seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. However, she was defeated in the 2019 Lok Sabha election for the Asansol constituency by Babul Supriyo of the BJP.
