Biography
Rhys won the "Media Award" at the Hall of Fame London 2014 and the "Actor of the Year Award" at Hall of Fame London 2015. His rugged good looks and strong yet sensitive screen presence have allowed him to portray a wide range of characters, including antiheroes, medieval warriors, gangsters, thugs, rugby players, and devoted husbands. Rhys showcases various skills in his films, such as martial arts, archery, firearms, knife, and tomahawk throwing. He also choreographed all the fight scenes in the award-winning "Pure Bloodlines" films, working closely with the other fighters involved.
Born in Cardiff, Wales, Rhys began his acting career at 18, studying in multiple acting classes and performing in theatre productions like "Beverly Hill Billies" and "Oklahoma." Soon after, he transitioned to screen acting with roles in popular dramas on S4C and BBC. Known for his martial arts expertise both on and off screen, Rhys started training at age 12 and has since become a martial arts expert. He has won several World Championships, holds two black belts, is a fully licensed instructor, and enjoys teaching martial arts and stage combat alongside his acting career. He developed his own martial arts style, the "Gentleman Warrior Self Defence System," acclaimed as a highly realistic street self-defense method, and teaches his own "Historical and Modern Stage Combat Class," praised by professional actors. Rhys’s breakthrough came with the "Pure Bloodlines" trilogy, which he wrote, directed, and produced with his twin brother, Gerald Horler. For his work on the trilogy—including acting, directing, martial arts, and fight choreography—Rhys received the "Media Award" at the Hall of Fame London 2014. He also won the "Actor of the Year Award" at the 2015 ceremony for his portrayal of Alec in "Pure Bloodlines: Bloods Thicker Than Water." Following the success of the films, a comic written by Gerald Horler was released. Recently, Rhys and Gerald starred as Alun and Lee Baldwin in "Dream Horse," directed by multi-BAFTA winner Euros Lyn and featuring Damian Lewis, Toni Collette, Peter Davison, and Joanna Page.
