Biografía
Bruno Carnide (born 1987 in Leiria, Portugal) is a film director and producer, and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). A two-time nominee for the Sophia Awards by the Portuguese Film Academy, he creates an authorial body of work that spans fiction, animation, and documentary, focusing on themes such as memory, identity, and the materiality of the image. He often employs analogue film as a storytelling tool, a signature element of his cinematic style. His films have earned 50 awards and have been selected for over 400 festivals across more than 50 countries, including those that qualify for the Oscars and European Awards. Since 2013, he has been the founder, director, and programmer of the Leiria Film Fest - International Short Film Festival. Holding the Title of Specialist in Film Production, he teaches cinema at the university level, frequently serves as a juror at international festivals, and was curator of Leiria’s Museum of Moving Image from 2022 to 2024. Alongside his artistic work, he is active in institutional filmmaking, advertising, and audiovisual content production, having created hundreds of projects for clients such as Google, MTV, Nickelodeon, RTP, Volkswagen, Ford, and Schweppes. His filmography includes the short films Memories of an Empty House (2023) and Fled. Lay. Fell. (2017), both shot on Super 8 film, as well as the animated short The Flight of the Manta Rays (2021).
