Biografía
Hannah Storm is an award-winning journalist, producer, and director known as a trailblazer in broadcasting, a published author, a children's vascular birthmark advocate, and a mother to three daughters.
In 2018, she made history in sports broadcasting as the play-by-play announcer for Amazon Prime Video's Thursday Night Football. Storm was part of the first female duo to broadcast a professional sports series in the U.S. and the first female team to commentate on NFL games.
Since joining ESPN in 2008, Storm has co-hosted SportsCenter, the network's flagship show. She has hosted and executive produced ESPN’s primetime interview series Face to Face with Hannah Storm and covered major events such as Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, the New York City Marathon, Veterans Day specials, the Super Bowl, College Football Playoff National Championship, ESPY Awards, NBA Finals, NFL Combine, Muhammad Ali’s funeral, MLB’s historic visit to Cuba, NFL Draft, Mayweather-Pacquiao, Mayweather-McGregor, and the Rio Olympics. Additionally, she has hosted The Sports Reporters and contributed to E:60 and Outside the Lines, and serves on the Board of Advisors for espnW.
On ABC, Storm contributes to Nightline, hosted The Rose Parade from 2008-2018 and in 2021, and guest-hosted Bachelor Winter Games in 2018. She has reported for 20/20, hosted the primetime special Walk the Wire, and hosted ABC Sports Saturday.
From 2002 to 2007, Storm co-hosted CBS’s The Early Show, covering key events including the 2004 U.S. presidential election, Iraq war, Hurricane Katrina, Super Bowls XLI and XXXVIII, 2004 Democratic National Convention, 2004 and 2008 presidential campaigns, and London terror bombings. She reported for CBS’s 48 Hours and co-hosted Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade coverage. Before CBS, Storm spent a decade at NBC Sports, hosting coverage of four Olympics (Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Salt Lake City 2002), Wimbledon, Notre Dame football, NBA on NBC, and the Baseball Network. She was the first woman to solo host a major network’s sports series, leading Major League Baseball coverage including three World Series, and in 1997 became the first play-by-play announcer for the WNBA.
Between 1989 and 1992, Storm worked at CNN, becoming the first female host of CNN Sports Tonight. In 2008, she founded Brainstormin' Productions, producing and directing acclaimed documentaries and branded content, such as Grails: When Sneakers Change the Game (Hulu), Rowdy (SEC Network), Danica (EPIX), Love & Payne (espnW), Shaq & Dale (SEC Network, ESPN, ABC), Swoopes (espnW), Moving the Goal (ESPN), and Unmatched (ESPN). She has also directed branded content for Under Armour, Oakley, Procter & Gamble, Ford, and Gillette.
Storm established the Hannah Storm Foundation in 2008, which finances surgeries for children with vascular birthmarks worldwide, including the U.S., China, Georgia, Slovenia, India, and South Africa. The foundation has helped create new insurance codes and supports a journalism internship at Notre Dame.
She is the author of Notre Dame Inspirations (Doubleday, 2006) and Go Girl!: Raising Healthy, Confident and Successful Daughters through Sports (Sourcebooks, 2002; re-released 2011). Storm has also contributed to publications such as Cosmopolitan, The Hollywood Reporter, Nick Jr., Family Circle, Child, and Notre Dame Magazine.
Storm has appeared in films and TV shows including Like Mike, Valentine’s Day, Creed, Arli$$, Scrubs, and As the World Turns.
Her accolades include the 2018 Woman of Influence from Multichannel News; the 2017 Lifetime Excellence in Sports Communications Award from Marist College; Champion of Literacy Award from Literacy Advance of Houston; multiple Gracie Awards for pioneering female sports broadcasting and outstanding anchoring; University of Notre Dame Distinguished Alumni Award; March of Dimes Sports Legend Award; YWCA Brava Award; Traditional Home Classic Woman Award; and induction into the Paley Center for Media’s She Made It Hall of Fame.
A 1983 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with degrees in communications and political science, Storm holds an honorary Doctorate of Public Service from the University of Portland. She lives in Connecticut with her husband, Dan Hicks, and their three daughters.
