Biografía
Oliver Broumis was born and raised in Hannover, Germany.
Immediately after college, he attended the Hamburg University of Music and Dramatic Arts for a four-year acting program. Since then, he has undergone extensive training in Los Angeles with M. K. Lewis (Film Technique), Sam Christensen (S. Chr. Process), and Frank Betzelt in Berlin (Meisner Technique). He launched his professional career with the German/Swiss film "Immer & Ewig" ("Always & Forever"), a contemporary adaptation of Jean Paul Sartre's play "The Game is Over." Concurrently, he performed in theaters across Germany in productions of Shakespeare, Goethe, and other playwrights.
His roles in the war films "Stalingrad" and "Hasenjagd" ("The Quality of Mercy") revealed his aptitude for portraying emotionally complex and volatile characters.
In 2002, driven by his interest in film politics, he co-founded the "film.lounge.berlin," a networking hub for the Berlin film community.
In 2004, he portrayed German zoologist and wildlife activist Bernhard Grzimek, known for preserving natural heritage sites like Tanzania's Serengeti National Park. Having grown up watching Grzimek’s monthly TV show at age four, Broumis fulfilled his childhood aspiration by embodying this dedicated figure three decades later.
That same year, he produced the documentary "Zwischen Kopf und Himmel," directed by a first-time filmmaker, which explores the lives of women in East Africa.
Currently, he is collaborating with a German director on the script for "Rigby," a film examining death and the dying process. The story investigates how living with an awareness of mortality and transience can positively impact one’s life. For research, he spent several weeks working in a local hospice and will also star in the lead role.
He is also venturing into documentary filmmaking for the first time. In 2013, he completed the Raindance Berlin Documentary Foundation Course (Raindance Film Festival) to enhance his filmmaking skills.
Between 2013 and 2015, he served as a coach and director for prison theater projects "Home" and "Identity" at the women’s prison in Berlin-Pankow.
In February 2021, he joined 184 other LGBTQIA+ actors in the #ActOut initiative organized by the renowned German magazine SZ-Magazin.
In his personal life, he is an avid traveler.
