Biografía
In the early 1990s, Busch launched his Hollywood career, contributing to every facet of the film industry on projects such as The Matrix and Con-Air.
At the same time, he began creating illustrations for books, magazines, posters, comics, trading cards, and toys tied to prominent pop culture franchises including Lord of the Rings, The Crow, G.I. Joe, Night of the Living Dead, The Hulk, Battlestar Galactica, Robocop, The Mummy, and Star Trek.
Best known for his contributions to the Star Wars universe, Busch has written and illustrated numerous Star Wars books and magazines. He designed the cover for Tales from the Empire, which became a New York Times Bestseller. He also produced artwork for advertising, marketing, and licensed products related to all three Star Wars prequel films. Busch contributed nearly 400 drawings and paintings to the acclaimed You Can Draw Star Wars book from DK Publishing. Additionally, he created video tutorials showcasing his distinctive drawing and painting techniques, with online episodes that broke records and were later compiled into limited edition DVD volumes.
A private musician, Busch has collaborated with major artists including Alice Cooper, Beastie Boys, Beck, Black Sabbath, Cinderella, Foo Fighters, Garbage, Kid Rock, L.L. Cool J, Billy Joel, Megadeth, Motley Crue, Ted Nugent, Ozzy Osbourne, Poison, and Jessica Simpson.
His first hardcover art collection, Fantastic Visions: The Art of Matt Busch, was published by Avatar Press and featured an introduction by Poison's Rikki Rockett. SQP Publishing released another hardcover titled Pucker: The Seductive Art of Matt Busch, with an introduction by System of a Down's John Dolmayan. In 2007, Hermes Press published The Worlds of Matt Busch, a definitive anthology. Most recently, Busch released his largest compilation, Hollywood is Dead, a 208-page hardcover featuring reimagined iconic movie posters with a zombie theme.
In 2006, Busch debuted his first independent film, Conjure, which he wrote, directed, starred in, and scored. Self-financed, the film earned critical acclaim and set new records. In 2008, he released his second feature, Illustration Nation, a documentary chronicling his global travels during the 2007 Planetmatt World Tour.
Aladdin 3477 stands as Busch’s most ambitious project, a feature film in development for over twenty years. Inspired by the classic Arabian Nights tale, the story is set 1,500 years in the future in Asia 1. The film is anticipated to be released sometime in 2015.
Busch lives in a multi-studio home in Macomb Township, Michigan, with his wife, artist and actress Lin Zy, their dog Roxie, and a family of Japanese Koi. Both serve as professors at Macomb College by day and pursue adventurous artistic endeavors by night.
