Mugga, a Brooklyn native, is celebrated for infusing her dramatic roles with a strong comedic touch. Her acting journey started early, studying under instructors like Tracey Moore, Joanna Beckson, and Paul Calderon.
On a dare, she ventured into stand-up comedy and quickly caught the attention of Def Comedy Jam scout Bob Sumner. This led to numerous high-profile stand-up appearances, including DEF COMEDY JAM, SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO, BET'S COMIC VIEW (three times), and BBC'S CLUB CLASS, propelling her into the comedy spotlight.
Praised by critics, including the New York Times, she toured with DEF JAM, the UK-based comedy troupe SWG, and SISTAHS WITH GAGS, among others. Her success in stand-up boosted her entertainment career, allowing her to return to acting.
Her passion and training culminated in landing a role in Lee Daniels' Oscar-winning film Precious as the memorable restaurant worker from whom Precious stole chicken.
Balancing stand-up and acting, Mugga secured her SAG Award-winning role as Reema Pell in the groundbreaking Netflix series Orange Is The New Black. As her profile rose, she took on a recurring role as Bethany Collins, the charming flight attendant, on NBC's cult hit Manifest.
