Rajiv Kapoor, born on August 25, 1962, in Bombay, is the third and least known son of showman Raj Kapoor and the grandson of Prithviraj Kapoor. He is the brother of Randhir, Ritu, Rima, and Rishi, and is affectionately nicknamed Chimpu.
His sisters-in-law include Bollywood actresses Babita and Neetu Singh. His paternal uncles are Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor. He is cousins with Karan, Sanjana, and Kunal, and uncle to Karisma and Kareena Kapoor. His aunt Jennifer, Shashi Kapoor's wife, has also acted in several films.
Rajiv began his acting career in 1983 as a lead in 'Ek Jaan Hai Hum' and went on to appear in films such as 'Aasman', 'Zabardast', 'Mera Saathi', 'Lava', 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili', 'Lover Boy', 'Preeti', 'Zalzala', 'Shukriya', 'Hum To Chale Pardes', 'Naag Nagin', and 'Zimmedar' in 1990, which marked his last known acting role.
Following his acting career, he participated in the production of 'Henna', 'Prem Granth', and 'Aa Ab Laut Chalen'. He also directed 'Prem Granth', edited 'Prem Granth', 'Prem Rog', and 'Aa Ab Laut Chalen', and contributed to the direction of 'Biwi O Biwi'.
Throughout his career, he co-starred with actresses like Mandakini, Kimi Katkar, Amrita Singh, Vijayata Pandit, Padmini Kolhapure, Meenakshi Sheshadhiri, Dimple Kapadia, Divya Rana, Rati Agnihotri, and Tina Munim.
In 1998, Rajiv Kapoor received a Filmfare Award, which he accepted on behalf of the RK banner.
He is fondly remembered for his notable performance in the award-winning film 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili', directed by his father, produced by his brother Randhir, and co-starring debutante Mandakini.
