Norman Thaddeus Vane, originally named Norman Theodore Vein, was born on July 7, 1928, in Brookhaven, New York. He grew up in Patchogue, New York. Vane served as a Merchant Marine for one year and spent two years in the Air Force, stationed at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, Georgia. After his military service, he studied playwriting at Columbia University. In 1952, he wrote his first play, "The Penguin," which starred Martin Landau and received positive reviews Off-Broadway. His first Broadway play, "Harbor Lights," ran for only four performances. During the 1960s and early 1970s, Vane lived in London, England, where he wrote and directed his first two films, managed three nightclubs, and contributed to Penthouse magazine. In 1974, he relocated to California, where he wrote, directed, and produced several low-budget films. Vane passed away from heart failure at his home in Hollywood, California, on May 2, 2015, at the age of 86.
