Diane Cary is an Italian American actress best known for her role as "Harmony" in the 1983 series V. Trained as a Groundling and having performed stand-up comedy at the Improv and the Comedy Store, she appeared in recurring comedic roles on ALF (1986) and the pilot "Quail Lake" with Bill Maher. She is often likened to Edie Falco, Bebe Neuwirth, and Patricia Clarkson, with a unique twist.
Raised in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, Diane began acting at age 13 in the Croton Shakespeare Festival. After starring in leading roles there, including the lead in a five-hour production of Cymbeline, she earned a scholarship to the Theatre Arts Department at the University of Denver, graduating cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Upon graduation, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue television and film, continuing to perform on stage whenever possible. She is happily married to her college sweetheart, television creator and executive producer James D. Parriott.
A SAG-AFTRA/AEA member, Diane has guest-starred in more than forty hours of television, including Forever Knight, The Starter Wife (2008), Cold Case (2003), Ugly Betty (2006), and Defying Gravity, among others. She starred in the horror film Transylvanian Curse (2015) and co-starred in several feature films, including the Academy Award-nominated El Norte (1983) and the award-winning festival film American Fango. Diane was a series regular in both the pilot and mini-series of V (1983) and on NBC's cult series Misfits of Science (1985).
Her stage career in Los Angeles includes leading roles in numerous productions, such as the Dramalogue/Ovation award-winning Song for a Nisei Fisherman at the Mark Taper Forum-Taper Too, Standing On My Knees at The Zephyr Theatre, and Pineapple White at East-West Players. Other notable starring roles include Dinner at Home Between Deaths and The Snake Can at The Odyssey Theatre, Win/Lose/Draw at The Skylight Theatre, Love and Whispers at The Cast Theatre, Von Lutz at The Lillian Theatre, and the West Coast premiere of Too Much Sun at The Odyssey Theatre.
