Sarpong Kwame Steward, popularly known as Angel No Lie, is a multifaceted Ghanaian artist, journalist, and entrepreneur. His career spans music, media, and film production.
Early Life and Education
Born Sarpong Kwame Steward in Duayaw Nkwanta, Ahafo Region, Ghana, Angel No Lie's musical journey began at a young age in the church, where he learned percussion instruments like the snare and bass drum as part of the "Brigade" group. He was home schooled by his grandfather, the late Kingsley Kwame Yeboah, a former Chief Inspector of the Ghana Police Services, and began rapping at age seven. He attended Acherensua Senior High School, where he studied General Arts and served as entertainment prefect. His passion for music solidified during this time, leading him to start performing on stage at age 12.
After graduating from Acherensua Senior High School in 2017, Angel No Lie pursued further education at GH Media School in Accra, earning a diploma in Journalism and Media Studies.
Music Career
Angel No Lie's musical endeavors took off while he was still in high school. As entertainment prefect from 2016 to 2017, he discovered and collaborated with fellow students, most notably featuring Ruth Nyantakyi on his imperatively single "Let it Shine" (2016). He then started producing, writing, and recording his own music, releasing tracks like "Achisco Risen" (2017) which featured Remixes, Prestigious, Empress, Pablo, and Flexible. Other early singles include "Kessewah" (2015) and "Nkwanta Naggers" (2015).
Inspired by his late grandmother, Lucy Akua Antwiwaah, Angel No Lie established Sarpjet Records Original (initially Akua Antwiwaah Production, then Sarpjet Music) to release his creative works. His grandmother served as CEO from 2013 to 2014 before handing the reins to him, remaining a key source of inspiration.
During his time at GH Media School (2018-2019), he released popular singles such as "Over the Horizon," "Supa Star," and "Nsuo Wura." He gained significant attention with his protest songs "SRC" and "Awake," which addressed issues within the school's Student Representative Council. These songs sparked widespread debate and ultimately led to him being applauded and awarded by the Rector of the School, Leslie Addo Listowell.
In 2023, Angel No Lie's music achieved global recognition when he signed a distribution deal with Amuse, a global music company. This partnership made his music officially available on major streaming platforms like Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, iTunes, and Tidal, allowing him to retain 100% of his master rights. He primarily creates music in the R&B, Soul, Pop, Rap, and Dance genres.
Broadcast Career
After completing his tertiary education, Angel No Lie secured an internship at TV Africa in 2019. He quickly advanced from a runner to a news reporter and editorial assistant, eventually moving into production roles as a voice-over editor, voice trainer, video editor, and sound technician. With his diploma in Journalism and Media Studies, he was responsible for reporting and providing comprehensive coverage of local, political, and economic events for TV Africa in Accra.
From 2020 to 2021, he distinguished himself as a committed journalist, adept at writing balanced, informative, and engaging stories that presented all perspectives. In 2021, he joined the then BrightNewsRoom.com now Whispergist.com at the invitation of his brother, Bright Kumi. Here, he honed his ability to write captivating articles for a broad target audience, covering diverse topics such as crime, travel, sports, employment, health and fitness, education, relationships, the economy, and culture. His dedication and hard work led to his promotion from feature and news story writer to Content Manager for the news portal.
Business Ventures and Film Production
In 2023, Angel joined his uncle's company, Addakus Construction Ltd, a building and civil engineering firm. His uncle began training him in various aspects of construction. Angel has been working as a laborer with the company since 2023 and continue in this role till 2025.
Angel No Lie has built a successful business career with investments across various industries. He is actively involved in artist and talent management, as well as record, television, and film production.
In 2009, he co-founded Dreams Films Production (originally Uptown Films Production) with Steven Mensah. Their first co-produced film, "Owuo Safowa" (2009), marked Angel No Lie's debut as an actor and executive producer, though the film was never released due to production issues. Undeterred, he continued as an executive producer, successfully producing films like "Abusua Agude" and "Asem Beba Dabi," both of which aired on TV Africa in 2024.
Angel No Lie was also the chief operating officer for Movie Era Ghana, an online platform dedicated to artist interviews, promotions, blogging, award schemes, and event organizing. He is the main person responsible for managing Sarpjet Records Original, which functions as a themed entertainment integrator and design firm based in Accra, Ghana. Additionally, Sarpjet Records Original is a significant global producer and distributor of filmed entertainment, home to premier media brands that create diverse content, including television programs, motion pictures, short-form content, apps, games, consumer products, and social media experiences for audiences worldwide.
