Justin Thomas is an American filmmaker, producer, actor, writer, director, host, entrepreneur, composer, songwriter, storyteller, poet, and mental health advocate. He is the founder of Volkayto Media and the creator and original host of On Air With JT (2010-2025), a long-running interview and talk series that he developed, produced, hosted, and independently distributed for more than fifteen years.
Since 2010, Thomas has produced more than 3,000 episodes of podcasts, original audio series, interview programs, talk shows, and other audio programming across his independent productions.
Through Volkayto Media, Thomas develops original films, television projects, documentaries, audio series, music, and digital media. The company has evolved alongside Thomas’ career, operating across independent production, media, talent, creative development, marketing, social media, consulting, and digital content. Volkayto Media also operates the Volkayto Original Audio Series production label, producing original podcasts, interview programs, talk shows, documentaries, and other creator-driven audio programming.
Thomas developed an interest in storytelling and broadcasting at an unusually early age. At seven years old, he discovered broadcasting after recording his own talk show using a karaoke machine, microphone, and cassette tape. After listening to the recording in the family car, he became fascinated by the idea of creating his own entertainment and connecting with an audience.
By third grade, Thomas had begun writing poetry and songs, establishing an early interest in writing, music, performance, and storytelling.
In 2006, at age 12, Thomas began writing his autobiography, documenting his life and creative development. The manuscript would become a long-running personal project that he would eventually return to two decades later.
Between 2009 and 2011, Thomas independently wrote, recorded, and produced original music under several aliases while simultaneously experimenting with broadcasting, digital media, songwriting, and independent production.
In 2010, at just 16 years old and while a sophomore in high school, Thomas founded Volkayto Media and launched both On Air With JT and The Justin Thomas Show.
The timing of the projects became significant to Thomas’ career. At a point when traditional radio and television still dominated talk and interview programming, and years before podcasting, live streaming, and the modern creator economy became mainstream, Thomas was already building an independent media operation around the internet.
On Air With JT began as an independently produced interview and talk program, while The Justin Thomas Show launched as a live, interactive internet talk show broadcast on Ustream.
Rather than choosing between radio, live streaming, or recorded audio, Thomas was experimenting with multiple formats simultaneously. His early programming combined live internet radio, live streaming, podcasting, on-demand audio, interviews, audience interaction, and independent distribution.
Thomas effectively treated the internet as his own radio station and production network. He was producing and hosting live programming in real time, interacting directly with listeners, recording long-form audio, conducting interviews, and distributing his work online at a time when this model was still in its infancy.
Between 2010 and 2012, Thomas independently created, produced, hosted, recorded, and distributed a growing slate of live and recorded programming. His projects included JT In The Morning (2011-2012), Top Ten Countdown With JT (2011-2012), and Social Media With JT, while he continued developing On Air With JT and The Justin Thomas Show.
At only 16 and 17 years old, Thomas was not simply making a podcast or experimenting with a live stream. He was building an early version of what would eventually become known as the creator economy: creating original programming independently, developing his own formats, building an audience online, interacting with that audience in real time, and distributing content without a traditional broadcast network or studio.
In 2012, Thomas expanded Volkayto Media beyond broadcasting and production with the development of Social Media With JT.
The project reflected Thomas’ growing understanding that social media was becoming more than a place to post content; it was becoming a new form of communication, marketing, audience development, and business.
Through Volkayto Media, Thomas began developing services and projects around social media management, social media strategy, marketing, digital marketing, consulting, promotional campaigns, content development, and online audience growth.
At a time when many traditional businesses were still trying to understand Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and the rapidly changing digital landscape, Thomas was already treating social media as a professional service and marketing discipline.
Still a teenager, he was effectively positioning Volkayto Media as more than a production company. It was evolving into an early independent media, marketing, social media, creative, and consulting agency, anticipating business models that would become commonplace years later.
This expansion also reflected the broader philosophy behind Thomas’ work: rather than waiting for traditional media companies to provide opportunities, he built the infrastructure himself, producing content, creating media brands, developing audiences, managing digital platforms, and exploring new ways for creators and businesses to communicate with the public.
The expansion of Volkayto Media in this period established the foundation for the company’s eventual identity as a multidisciplinary independent media and creative company.
At age 17, Thomas began independently interviewing public figures, including songwriter and producer Saint Cassius, co-writer of Bruno Mars’ Grammy Award-winning song "Just the Way You Are," as well as YouTube creator Ed Bassmaster.
These early interviews established a format Thomas would continue developing throughout his career: long-form conversations with people working across entertainment, music, film, comedy, business, and culture.
In 2012, Thomas graduated from high school and from the Orlando campus of the Connecticut School of Broadcasting.
That same year, he wrote, produced, directed, and starred in the autobiographical documentary Who Is Justin Thomas?, documenting his early life, creative ambitions, and development as a young broadcaster and independent creator.
The project represented an early transition from broadcasting into filmmaking and visual storytelling.
Thomas’ involvement in music began during childhood and continued throughout his development as a creator.
In 2015, he co-founded Head Hunt Music, where he served as vice president, artist manager, talent agent, A&R, and songwriter. The company’s roster included emerging artists such as Heartbreak Hunna, CakeSwagg, B.A.D., and others.
Thomas remained involved with Head Hunt Music until 2019, when he departed to focus on independent productions and his own creative work.
In 2020, Thomas returned to music production, writing, recording, and producing original material over the following two years. His work in music would later expand into songwriting and composition for film, television, audio series, and digital media.
In 2021, following an interview with Red Lotus and JuJu Mad Scientist, Thomas relocated to California and joined Good People as vice president and creative director.
He later departed the organization following creative differences and continued developing his own independent projects.
While many of Thomas’ early programs were short-lived experiments, On Air With JT became his longest-running creative property.
From 2010 through 2025, Thomas continued developing the series independently, evolving it from its early internet radio and live-streaming roots into a broader interview platform.
Over the years, Thomas independently booked and interviewed actors, filmmakers, musicians, comedians, athletes, entrepreneurs, and other public figures.
Between 2021 and 2023, he conducted multiple interviews with members of the Grammy Award-winning band Portugal. The Man, including frontman John Gourley.
In October 2022, Thomas interviewed indie rock band Mt. Joy backstage at MGM Music Hall at Fenway, including a one-on-one conversation with lead vocalist Matt Quinn.
Other interview subjects throughout the series included Peter Billingsley, Mike Henry, Tucker Tooley, Stephen Bradley of No Doubt, Sam Hollander, Kym Whitley, Coodie Simmons, Zack Bornstein, Ricky Williams, and numerous other figures from entertainment, music, film, comedy, sports, and business.
After more than fifteen years and more than 2,000 episodes, Thomas concluded On Air With JT in 2025.
In 2024, Thomas began pursuing acting professionally while continuing to write, produce, and compose original music for film, television, audio series, and digital media.
His screen credits include background and featured background appearances in A Complete Unknown (2024), Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere (2025), The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 2 (2025), Happy Gilmore 2 (2025), and Disclosure Day (2026).
Thomas’ first experience on a major motion picture set came while portraying a church protester in A Complete Unknown (2024). Although the scene was ultimately removed from the completed film, the production marked the beginning of his work on a major motion picture set. He later appeared in a gas station sequence in Disclosure Day (2026).
His transition into acting represents another stage in a career that began with broadcasting and expanded through writing, music, interviewing, production, documentary filmmaking, and storytelling.
In 2026, Thomas launched the third iteration of The Justin Thomas Show as a Volkayto Original Audio Series.
Originally created in 2010 and first relaunched in 2014, the series returned as a creator-driven interview program featuring conversations with guests including Kym Whitley, Zack Bornstein, and Coodie Simmons.
The 2026 revival brought Thomas back to the format that had helped launch his career sixteen years earlier, while incorporating the production experience he had accumulated across broadcasting, podcasting, filmmaking, music, social media, marketing, and independent media.
In 2026, twenty years after beginning his autobiography at age 12, Thomas resumed work on the manuscript.
He also continued production on a documentary incorporating two decades of archival footage documenting his life, creative development, career, and evolution from a young broadcaster into an independent filmmaker and multidisciplinary creator.
The archival material spans much of Thomas’ creative history, including his early broadcasting experiments, music, interviews, productions, social media work, personal experiences, and transition into film.
In August 2026, Thomas announced on The Justin Thomas Show that the third iteration of the series would also be its final iteration.
The series is scheduled to conclude in December 2026, bringing an end to the program that Thomas originally created when he was 16 years old, ironically concluding its final iteration when Thomas is 32, exactly twice the age he was when he first created it.
In August 2026, Thomas also launched SinCalot Pictures & SinCalot Media, a new production-company structure that serves as the parent company to Volkayto Media. The launch represents the latest expansion of Thomas’ independent entertainment operation as he increasingly focuses on film, television, scripted storytelling, audio series and original production while continuing to operate Volkayto Media under the new parent company structure.
Following the conclusion of the series, Thomas plans to focus primarily on acting, writing, producing, and directing, with several original film and television projects in development.
While Thomas is increasingly focused on his acting career and on developing and creating his own original film and television projects, he continues to actively produce through Volkayto Media. Thomas and his production company are currently developing and producing several upcoming original audio series, with Thomas serving as a producer on the projects. His continued involvement in audio production reflects the broader scope of Volkayto Media and allows him to remain active across multiple areas of entertainment while pursuing his next chapter in film and television.
His current work increasingly centers on filmmaking and scripted storytelling while continuing to draw upon more than two decades of experience in broadcasting, podcasting, live streaming, social media, marketing, interviewing, music, independent production, documentary filmmaking, and digital media.
Across his career, Thomas has consistently moved toward emerging forms of media before they became mainstream, from experimenting with internet broadcasting, live streaming, and podcast-style programming at 16 in 2010, to treating social media as a marketing, management, and consulting discipline as early as 2012, years before creator-led digital media became a dominant part of the entertainment and advertising industries.
His career has evolved from a seven-year-old recording a homemade talk show onto a cassette tape, to a teenage broadcaster building his own internet-based media operation, to an independent producer, filmmaker, actor, writer, director, host, composer, entrepreneur, and founder of a multidisciplinary media company.
More than two decades after that first cassette recording, Thomas continues to build his career around the same fundamental idea that started it all: creating original stories, embracing emerging technology, and finding new ways to connect them with an audience.
