Born to an Arab mother and a Jewish father, Solvan "Slick" Naim is an Emmy-nominated, Peabody Award-winning Algerian-American director, writer, and rapper from Brooklyn, New York. He directed the pilot and all episodes of the critically acclaimed, 100% Rotten Tomatoes fresh series MO for Netflix, produced by A24 and Ramy Youssef. Slick also directed, starred in, produced, and wrote his series It's Bruno, which streams on Netflix and earned him an Emmy nomination.
Selected by Sony Pictures, FOX, and NBC for their Diverse Directors TV Program, Slick has directed numerous television episodes for series such as Snowfall (FX), Changeling (Apple), The Equalizer (CBS), Power (Starz), The Blacklist (NBC), and others.
His debut feature film, Full Circle—which he wrote, directed, starred in, and composed music for—won the Audience Award at the Urbanworld Film Festival, was acquired by eOne, and received a theatrical release.
At 22, he became the youngest feature film producer registered with the New York Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting, working with the lowest budget at that time. His short film Stanhope won Best Picture in HBO's Short Film Competition at the American Black Film Festival.
As a rapper, Slick wrote treatments for his songs and began directing his own music videos, which led to his filmmaking career. Known for his rapid-fire flow and melodic hooks, he released the album Proof of Concept on the same day his show It's Bruno! premiered; songs from the album were featured in the series. His music has appeared in several TV shows he directed and continues to be licensed for other television and film projects.
Slick is currently developing a feature film with Steven Spielberg at Amblin, which he is set to direct.
