Wolfgang was raised in a family of doctors and athletes in Vienna, Austria. He actively participated in various sports such as martial arts, boxing, horse riding, swimming, alpine skiing, and surfing. He was a member of the swim team, a certified ski instructor, and part of the Red Devils in Kitzbühel. Initially, Wolfgang aimed to follow in the footsteps of his father and older brother by becoming a doctor, enrolling at the Medical University of Vienna and passing his first-year exams. However, after two years, he left to pursue acting. Wolfgang moved to Los Angeles to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and also attended the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna.
Upon graduating, Wolfgang was immediately cast as the lead role of Lukas Zastrow in the German hit series "Storm of Love," appearing in one season and 220 episodes. He then spent two years with the theater ensembles at Kammerspiele and Schauburg in Munich. His international breakthrough came in 2012 with the popular eight-part TV war epic "Snipers" on Russia's Channel One, where his portrayal of the aristocratic German sniper Alexander von Foss gained significant attention. The success of this series opened doors for him in Russia and the CIS countries. In 2014, Wolfgang starred as elite pilot Boehlke in the WWII drama series "The Hunters."
Following this, he was invited to appear in "Mission Impossible - Rogue Nation," directed by Christopher McQuarrie, as well as in German productions "Hitlers Volk" (2015) and "Soko Munich" (2015).
In 2017, renowned director Dimitri Dyachenko cast Wolfgang as Alyosha Popovich, a famous Russian fairy tale knight, in Walt Disney Russia's "The Last Warrior." This film became the highest-grossing movie in Russian history. Subsequently, Wolfgang took on more projects, including a leading role in "Sobibor," directed by famed Russian actor Konstantin Khabenskiy. The film, about a mass escape from a Nazi death camp and co-starring Christopher Lambert, was Russia's submission for the 2019 Oscars.
Wolfgang continued his career across Eastern Europe and Europe. In 2018, he joined the main cast of the UK spy comedy "Action Team," airing on ITV2, playing Bogohardt, an Austrian-Russian counter spy. That same year, he portrayed wealthy Prince Alexis in the Welsh film "Morfydd."
In 2019, Wolfgang worked on five feature films and two TV series, including the horror blockbuster "Row 19," where he played the lead role of Alexei and demonstrated fluency in Russian.
The 2021 Tarantino-style thriller "Red Ghost," starring Wolfgang as the lead character Braun, quickly became a hit, selling to over 120 countries, including the US, Canada, France, Germany, China, and Japan. The dark comedy ranked as the eighth most popular Russian film on IMDb and earned Wolfgang the Best Actor award at the International Ozerov Film Festival.
In 2019, he guest-starred as Thomas Wielking, a blacksmith and medieval reenactor, in an episode of the 11th season of the Austrian crime series "Soko Donau."
That year, he also appeared on the popular figure skating show "Ice Age" on Russia's First Channel alongside Olympic champion Oksana Domnina, performing in 13 shows over as many weeks. He starred in the biopic "Zoe" (2020) as well.
In 2021, Wolfgang took lead roles in four feature films and a series: playing a shamanic cult leader in the mystery thriller "Whirlpool," a former German soldier Helmut in the international blockbuster "Nuremberg" directed by Nikolai Lebedev, a martial arts hero in "Legends of Sambo," which he also produced, and a misguided security guard in "Sokina Station."
That same year, Wolfgang and his wife Victoria welcomed their son Leonard.
For the family drama "Tell Her" (2021), emerging director Alexander Molochnikov cast Wolfgang alongside rising star Svetlana Khochenkova.
He then joined the cast of Netflix's "Valhalla" (2021) as Sten Sigurdsson.
Following Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Wolfgang and his family left Russia and relocated to Vienna, Austria, where they currently reside.
