Mario Corona, born in Mexico City and now based in Los Angeles, is an actor and host. From a young age, he was captivated by Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, inspired by his mother’s participation in the National Conservatory of Music Choir. At 12, he landed his first television commercial for a milk brand and began his career as a stunt double on "Nada Personal," acting alongside Demián Bichir while studying Drama for four years at The Russian School of Acting. There, he also trained in fencing, height falls, and stage combat. He won first place at the school and was selected for the Youth Arts Festival in Sofia, Bulgaria, performing a monologue from 'Catcher in the Rye.' He graduated with a diploma after performing 'White Nights' by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, directed by Professor Iouri B. Iliyachevsky.
Mario gained recognition when chosen from hundreds to host Bizbirije, a children’s TV program on Once TV that became one of Mexico’s most popular shows of its kind and holds the record for the largest team of reporters worldwide. For his hosting work, he received the National Journalism Prize and the National Locution Award twice, in 2004 and 2005. Following this, he filmed 'Bad Girls' and 'Casi Divas' consecutively, then starred in several thriller series for television and led successful media campaigns. His experience spans major networks such as Disney Channel, Discovery Channel, and Once TV.
His film credits include three Sony Pictures productions, Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Elysium’ starring Matt Damon, Diego Luna, and Wagner Moura, and comedies like 'Bad Girls (Niñas Mal)' and 'Road to Fame (Casi Divas).' On TV, he appeared in the award-winning series 'Las Aparicio,' the tech-invention program 'La Fábrica,' and Disney's 'Zapping Zone.' Most recently, he portrayed the notorious serial killer Carlos Salgado in the TV series 'Guardia-García.'
In theater, Mario has performed in 'Pariah' by August Strindberg, 'La Bestia' by Juan Frendsa—which was a semi-finalist at the Short and Sweet Film and Theatre Festival—'El Modelo de Sabines,' a staging of Mexican poet Jaime Sabines' work, an adaptation of Juan Rulfo’s 'Pedro Páramo,' and 'Filomena Marturano,' based on Eduardo de Filippo’s "Marriage Italian Style," which ran for 300 shows in Los Angeles, where a commemorative plaque was unveiled.
He also appeared in the hit CW series "Jane The Virgin" and the film "Maira," which screened at the Southern Film Festival in Lafayette, Louisiana. His U.S. work includes the film 'Madness in the Method,' theater, commercials, and a major World Cup beer campaign alongside Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren, marking the largest campaign for the event in Mexico. His short films have been featured at the American Film Institute and Chapman University. Recently, he produced, directed, and starred in the short film '10cm.
