Early in his career, Dex Elliott—actor, director, writer, producer, hip-hop artist, and activist—made guest appearances on shows like China Beach and Booker. This momentum led him to land two major roles simultaneously: a starring role in the film Boyz n the Hood and a three-year contract as a series regular on ABC’s daytime drama One Life to Live. Faced with a tough decision, Dex followed his agent’s advice and accepted the three-year contract. However, after just one year, he left the show and New York City to return to Los Angeles, where he resumed his career by booking roles on ER, Last Action Hero opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, and a recurring role on Beverly Hills 90210 as director Kyle Scott.
Dex then secured a starring role on the sci-fi series Babylon 5, portraying Jonathan Harris—a character so memorable that the franchise created a personal trading card in his honor. Over the years, he has continued to find success, landing series regular roles on pilots such as Valley of the Dolls and NBC’s Fast Company, opposite Ann Jillian and Tim Matheson. He has also guest-starred on popular shows including The Shield, Cold Case, CSI: Miami, and Without a Trace.
In addition to acting, Dex is a gifted hip-hop artist, songwriter, director, and producer. He has written and produced six solo albums and signed contracts with three major record labels. His music has been featured in films, television, and video games, including the John Tucker Must Die movie trailer, The Shield, Burn Notice, The Unit, Blue State Mountain, Reunion, Falcon Beach, and the 2KO video game Prize Fighter trailer.
During his college years, Dex worked at a nursing facility supporting autistic teenagers and adults and served as a live-in counselor at a boys’ home for troubled youth. Driven by a desire to make a difference, he also preached at several churches in Los Angeles and beyond. Yet, upon discovering acting, he recognized his true passion lay in the arts.
Dex is the owner, president, and CEO of Brown Rice Entertainment, an independent multimedia production company. He has written, directed, and produced several projects, including his first film, the cult classic dark comedy King of the Underground, starring himself alongside other notable actors. When he’s not busy writing scripts or creating new music, Dex remains active in his community, lending his voice and support to causes advocating for justice and equality for all.
