Mona Lee Fultz is a German-born American actress and Juilliard alumna with over 50 credits in films, TV movies, and commercials. She also boasts substantial theatrical experience, including performances at Lincoln Center in New York City. With a career spanning 40 years, Mona has worked in regional theatre, major films, and network television. She is a highly sought-after acting coach and serves as the principal and artistic director of BriteLites Acting Studio in Austin, Texas.
Born in Germany, Fultz moved to the United States with her German mother and military father. While studying theatre at the University of Texas at Austin, she earned a full scholarship to the Juilliard School, studying under the renowned theater producer John Houseman. Her stage credits include The Prodigious Snob at Lincoln Center, guest artist appearances at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, and a tour of The Second Time Around starring Pat O'Brien. She has performed in Marigolds, Crimes of the Heart, and numerous other productions across California, New York, and Texas.
Recently, Fultz has held prominent supporting roles in feature films such as Angel Dog, The Teller and the Truth directed by Andrew Shapter, Richard Linklater's Boyhood (2014 release), and Bernie alongside fellow Texan Matthew McConaughey. She has also co-starred in episodes of NBC’s Friday Night Lights, Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva, NBC’s The Chase, and My Generation. Having collaborated on six projects with Richard Linklater—who has also been one of her acting students—Fultz appeared as Mitch’s “ear-pulling” mom in his cult classic Dazed and Confused (1993). She also contributed to Linklater’s award-winning animated feature Waking Life. Linklater remarked, “Working with Mona caused me to focus my creative energies. And she (boom!) got me over the hump from amateur to professional level.”
Other notable film roles include the 20th Century Fox film Hope Floats, directed by Forest Whitaker and starring Sandra Bullock, and The Legend of Billie Jean, alongside Christian Slater. At Juilliard, Fultz’s classmates included Robin Williams, Christopher Reeve, Mandy Patinkin, Kevin Kline, Patti LuPone, Elizabeth McGovern, and Christine Baranski.
An actress, screenwriter, and acting coach, Mona Fultz is a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). She has been active in union affairs and served as Secretary/Treasurer of the Houston Council of SAG-AFTRA.
A passionate gardener, Mona is often drawn back to her garden to admire her native and tropical plants. Raised in a military family, she moved frequently and is the eldest of seven children—six girls and one boy. “I loved when we were stationed in Hawaii. That’s what inspired my inner gardener. I relax looking at plants and flowers. I feel very comfortable in Texas, too. I love the hill country, hiking at Enchanted Rock, and enjoying a German breakfast in Fredericksburg. I appreciate the cultural diversity in Texas, especially the Mexican culture and people.” Mona’s dedication to acting continues to inspire many aspiring actors seeking her guidance.
