Gennadi Vengerov was born on August 27, 1959, in Vitebsk, Belarus.
After graduating from the Technical School for Architecture and Construction and briefly working as a construction engineer, he began his creative career as an announcer for Vitebsk Regional Radio. He also performed at the People's Theater in Vitebsk. In 1980, he was invited to join the Yakub Kolas Belarus National Academic Drama Theater as a professional actor.
Following his military service in the Soviet Army in 1983, he enrolled in the School-Studio (Institute of Higher Education) at the Moscow Art Theater, studying under professors Viktor Monyukov and Vladimir Bogomolov. In 1986, during his fourth year, he and his classmate Mikhail Yefremov founded the «Sovremennik-2» Theater. In 1989, he joined the Moscow Academic Mayakovsky Theater troupe.
In 1990, Gennadi Vengerov moved to Germany, where he worked as an announcer for Deutsche Welle Radio and as an actor at the Düsseldorf Drama Theater. From 1995 to 2000, he was an actor at the Bochum Drama Theater.
Since 2004, he has been actively involved in Russian cinema and television projects, participated in theatrical productions in Moscow, and lent his voice to documentaries, fictional films, and advertisements.
He is the brand voice for the Russian News Broadcasting Station (RSN) and the Russian voice of the international channel Euronews. In 2009, he narrated the TV show "Men's Stories with Gennadi Vengerov" on Russia’s REN TV channel.
Throughout his career, Gennadi Vengerov has appeared in over 140 films across Russia, the USA, England, Austria, and Germany. He has worked alongside actors such as Jude Law, James Cromwell, Sean Bean, Til Schweiger, Christian Slater, Ving Rhames, Mario Adorf, Colm Meaney, Franka Potente, Jan Josef Liefers, Klaus Löwitsch, and others.
He is well-known and acclaimed in Russia for his roles as the blacksmith Vulkan in The Fighter series and Major Volkov in the Hour of Volkov series, and among German audiences for his portrayal of businessman Viktor Strelnikov in Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten.
