Curtis Morgan, widely known as "Chance," was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, alongside his twin brother, Chris. Their parents, Andrew Morgan, a school district superintendent, and Monica Morgan, a vice-principal, are both of Trinidadian heritage. From an early age, Curtis exhibited a passion for performing. During long family road trips, he entertained himself by perfectly mimicking every note of the music played—from ABBA to Peter Tosh, Bob Marley, and classic Calypsos—mastering every riff and ad-lib. These journeys helped cultivate his love for popular music and R&B. In high school, he formed a dance troupe that lip-synced to hits by New Edition and Bobby Brown at talent shows, which eventually evolved into an a cappella group performing songs by Boyz II Men, Shai, and similar artists. As Curtis matured and his voice changed, singing took a back seat, but his desire to perform remained strong.
In early 2000, encouraged by friends, he entered MuchMusic's VJ Search. He spent a day filming with a video camera and then taught himself video editing over the next three days. Submitting his entry just minutes before the deadline, his video was selected from 1,500 submissions, advancing him to compete live before 10 million viewers across Canada for the role of MuchMusic’s next video jockey. When asked about nerves, Curtis often says that being in front of the cameras felt surprisingly comfortable. Although he didn't win, he made a notable impression. Later that year, MuchMusic invited him to join their new reality series, "6 Canadians on A Bus," featuring a cross-Canada journey filmed over 69 days and nights from the East coast to the West.
After the show concluded, Curtis pursued a deeper understanding of the television and film industry by enrolling in a Bachelor’s Degree program in Radio & Television Arts at Ryerson University in Toronto. Upon graduation, he auditioned for a supporting role in Sidney J. Furie's film "American Soldiers." Impressed by his reading, Furie immediately cast Curtis in the lead role. This debut performance opened doors to other projects such as "The Four Horsemen" and "Conduct Unbecoming."
Marking over 20 years in the acting world, Curtis "Chance" Morgan continues to make an impact. His portrayal of "Pangborn" in Disney-ABC/Netflix’s "Shadowhunters" earned him a beloved spot among fans. He has also appeared in series like "Fatal Vows," playing a murderous husband, and "Zahara: The Return," portraying a 500-year-old vampire love interest. Two films featuring Curtis are slated for release in 2022: "The Apprentice," co-starring rising talent Chase Lawless, and "Bordello," a Western in which he plays a barkeep in a troubled town.
Recently, Curtis has broadened his skills to include voice acting. He has lent his voice to numerous commercials airing nationally and provincially, voicing spots for major clients such as RBC, Honda, and Lyft.
Curtis has discovered many ways to captivate audiences. On the subject, he simply states, "See, this right here? This... is what I do." Whether singing, dancing, acting, or voice work, one of his recent acting coaches remarked that he possesses "something special" and "really, really strong instincts." It’s evident that Curtis "Chance" Morgan’s star is on the rise, and his journey is just beginning.
