Alessio Cremonini was born in Rome in 1973. He is an Italian film and television director. He began his career as an assistant director on the TV series Amico Mio by Paolo Poeti, then transitioned to cinema, assisting Ettore Scola on the film La Cena and working with Ricky Tognazzi. In 1997, he co-wrote and directed a 35mm short film titled Marta with Camilla Costanzo, featured in the anthology The Italian Shorts, which was presented at the Venice Film Festival. Other directors involved in the anthology included Gillo Pontecorvo, Ettore Scola, Mario Monicelli, and Ricky Tognazzi. In 2000, he wrote the screenplay for Voices, based on the novel by Dacia Maraini and directed by Franco Giraldi; this screenplay won the Federico Fellini award for best screenplay. That same year, he also wrote episodes for the soap opera Vivere, produced by Endemol and aired on Canale 5. In 2003, he wrote and directed the TV movie A Family by Chance for Rai 1, starring Lando Buzzanca and Giovanna Ralli. In 2004, alongside Camilla Costanzo and Saverio Costanzo, he co-wrote the screenplay for Private, directed by Saverio Costanzo and produced by Off Side Production. Between 2004 and 2006, he served as a lecturer at the MedFilm Festival. In 2006, he wrote and directed the TV movie La Notte Breve, broadcast on Rai 2 and starring Giuliana De Sio. He continued his teaching career, serving as a translator and adapter instructor at the University of Bologna in 2009 and 2011. From 2010 to 2012, he taught creative writing at the School of Multimedia. In 2013, he wrote, directed, and co-produced Border with Francesco Melzi d’Eril, a film shot in Arabic about the Syrian war, which was presented at film festivals in Toronto, Rome, Tokyo, Cleveland, Belfast, and others. In 2016, together with Lisa Nur Sultan, he wrote the screenplay for On My Skin. In 2017, he directed the film, based on his own original subject Via Crucis, titled On My Skin. The film is based on actual documents and events related to the story of Stefano Cucchi and was produced by Cinemaundici and Lucky Red. It premiered on August 29, 2018, as the opening film in the Horizons section of the 75th Venice Film Festival.
