Born in Cincinnati, OH, Michael Lippert is an award-winning writer, director, and editor whose films, commercials, and documentaries have been showcased worldwide.
Michael began his career after studying film and television at Savannah College of Art and Design, where he also studied theater and appeared in countless productions. After school, he worked as a PA on major Hollywood productions, including "Charlie Wilson's War" and the TV series "Bones" and "Without a Trace." From there, he found work in post-production, and has been editing both long and short form content since 2008, from independent features to global commercial campaigns for major brands like Jeep. Michael has worked with some of the industry's top directors, including Lance Acord, and his award-winning brand work has also been featured in several Super Bowl broadcasts.
Michael's genre-spanning directorial efforts have garnered recognition at prestigious festivals, including Palm Springs, Cinequest, Doc Edge, Fantasia, and Heartland. His 2016 psychological drama "Miriam is Going to Mars" won best in show at Ithaka Fantastic and the Midwest Independent Film Festival, and his 2014 time travel thriller "Reversal" won the top prize at Juggernaut Film Festival in Chicago. In 2018, he shifted focus towards verité documentary storytelling when he directed "Reeves: a Home for Music," which follows the artists and community leaders who helped transform an art deco movie theater into a new music venue in North Carolina. In 2024, Michael completed his debut feature directorial effort, "Sloane: A Jazz Singer," a multi-award-winning documentary (including First Prize, Best Feature Documentary at Flicker’s Rhode Island International Film Festival) about little known jazz legend, Carol Sloane. "Sloane" has won over a dozen "best of" awards to date, and bowed at Palm Springs in 2024. The film is now available on Amazon, Kinema, and PBS.
