After several years working as a freelance Production Manager on international productions filmed in and around South Africa, Thérèsa was recruited by Genevieve Hofmeyr, owner and producer at the leading South African film company Moonlighting Films. In 2007, Thérèsa took on the role of Head of Production for Moonlighting Films' Feature Film division. Over her seven-year tenure as Head of Production, she played a key role in budgeting and development for production services, securing international contracts for projects filmed in South Africa, and overseeing all stages of production, from pre-production to post-production. Her credits include films such as Invictus (starring Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman), Safe House (Denzel Washington), The Giver (Meryl Streep), Mad Max: Fury Road (Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron), Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest film Grimsby, Sean Penn’s The Last Face (with Javier Bardem and Charlize Theron), as well as TV series including ER and 24. She also served as Production Executive for Moonlighting Films on season 4 of the Emmy Award-winning series Homeland (Clare Danes, Mandy Patinkin), successfully securing the entire series to be filmed on location in Cape Town.
While at Moonlighting Films, working closely with Genevieve Hofmeyr, Thérèsa built strong relationships with industry professionals, both independent and studio-based, primarily in the USA and UK. During this period, she met renowned South African director Oliver Hermanus while he was working on his film Skoonheid (Beauty). She later co-produced his film Endless River, which premiered in competition at the 72nd Venice Film Festival in 2015. Following a sabbatical to focus on her two young sons, Thérèsa returned to lead Hermanus's local South African production and distribution company, Penzance Films, and co-produced his critically acclaimed film Moffie, which had its world premiere in competition in the Orizzonti section of the 2019 Venice Film Festival.
As a dual South African and UK national, Thérèsa relocated to London with her family in 2021. In 2022, she line produced Nick Love’s series A Town Called Malice for SKY, shot in London and the Canary Islands, followed by Oliver Hermanus’s television debut, Mary & George, for SKY/AMC. She then co-produced K'naan Warsame’s debut feature film Mother Mother, filmed in Kenya alongside producer Andrea Calderwood. Most recently, Thérèsa produced Hermanus’s highly anticipated upcoming film History of Sound, starring Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor, filmed across the US, Italy, and the UK, with a planned release in 2025.
