Cordelia Richards, an actress and writer, was born and raised in Manhattan. After earning her BA in Theater Arts from Brown University, she completed the Professional Workshop at the Circle in the Square Theater on Broadway.
She launched her professional career immediately, working consistently in Off-Broadway theater with both emerging and established playwrights such as Romulus Linney, Jon Robin Baitz, and Israel Horovitz. She collaborated with directors including Joe Mantello, Kevin Dowling, Stephen Zuckerman, and Dan Sullivan. Concurrently, she began appearing in episodic television in New York, guest-starring in shows like NYPD Blue, Law & Order, and New York News, directed by Michael Apted.
Continuing her television career in Los Angeles, Cordelia appeared on series such as The Defenders, The Practice, Family Law, Close to Home, The Client, Strong Medicine, The Pretender, Dragnet, and several Movies of the Week, working with directors like Jack Bender, James Frawley, and Tim Busfield.
In Los Angeles, she also embarked on a film career, featuring in movies including Erin Brockovich, directed by Steven Soderbergh; Practical Magic, directed by Griffin Dunne and starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman; and Original Sin, directed by Michael Cristofer, starring Angelina Jolie and Antonio Banderas.
During her time in Los Angeles, Cordelia met and married her husband, Chris Richter, and took a hiatus from acting to focus on raising their daughter. She recently returned to the screen with the short film Felly (2015), written and directed by Alev Aydin.
