Nikolai Timofeev was a Russian actor affiliated with the Vakhtangov Theatre in Moscow.
Born Nikolai Dmitriyevich Timofeev on December 26, 1921, in Baku, Russia (now Baku, Azerbaijan), he served in the Red Army during World War II. From 1945 to 1950, he studied acting at the Shchukin Theatrical School of the Vakhtangov Theatre in Moscow, graduating as an actor in 1950.
Timofeev was a permanent member of the Vakhtangov Theatre troupe from 1950 until 1999. Throughout his career, he performed alongside renowned actors such as Mikhail Ulyanov, Ruben Simonov, Boris Zakhava, Mikhail Astangov, Vladimir Etush, Varvara Popova, Irina Kupchenko, Natalya Tenyakova, Yuliya Borisova, Lyudmila Maksakova, Lyudmila Tselikovskaya, Marianna Vertinskaya, Nina Ruslanova, Nikolai Gritsenko, Andrei Abrikosov, Grigori Abrikosov, Boris Babochkin, Nikolai Plotnikov, Vasiliy Lanovoy, Yuriy Yakovlev, Vyacheslav Shalevich, Aleksandr Grave, and Evgeniy Karelskikh, among others.
He was honored as People's Actor of Russia and received the State Prize of the USSR. Beyond his stage and film work, Timofeev made significant recordings of Russian and Soviet literature for Moscow Radio. He passed away from heart failure on September 25, 1999, in Moscow and was buried at Kuntsevskoe Cemetery in Moscow.
