Stewart St John is an acclaimed television writer, producer, composer, multimedia innovator, and filmmaker dedicated to storytelling through engaging characters, intricate worlds, and empowering music across diverse platforms.
With a childhood passion for animation, comic books, and music, Stewart secured a writing contract at Hanna-Barbera, where he was mentored by co-founder Joe Barbera (creator of The Flintstones and The Jetsons). He contributed as a writer and songwriter to Fox Kids' Tom & Jerry Kids and co-created the Hanna-Barbera short DINO with Joe Barbera, now featured at the Museum of Television & Radio in Beverly Hills.
Stewart has written for some of the most cherished children’s and family-friendly series worldwide, including 30 episodes of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (serving as story editor and writer), V.R. Troopers, Sabrina: The Animated Series, Marvel’s The Incredible Hulk, Inspector Gadget, Seventeen Again, and more.
He received the prestigious Humanitas Prize for Excellence in Screenwriting for a Prince Valiant episode addressing child abuse and won a Young Artist Award for his work on ABC’s Sabrina: The Animated Series, with his original feature film Seventeen Again also earning a nomination in the same category.
Marvel legend Stan Lee selected Stewart’s episode of The Incredible Hulk as one of his top five favorites for the DVD release. Additionally, Stewart’s “Witch Switch” episode of Sabrina: The Animated Series was released as a stand-alone DVD by Kellogg’s in cereal boxes nationwide.
A pioneer in digital storytelling, Stewart served as story editor and writer for the acclaimed online soap The Spot. He later created The Spot Wireless, the first mobile soap opera for Sprint vision-enabled phones, developing a groundbreaking cross-platform narrative linked to its web counterpart. He also created, wrote, and directed California Heaven, AOL’s first scripted digital series, and subsequently founded and managed an online digital network featuring original programming.
In 2015, Stewart partnered with Todd Fisher and Michael Plahuta to launch Wonkybot Studios, an incubator for his creator-owned multimedia projects.
As Joe Barbera predicted early in Stewart’s career, he is now building a roster of original characters through Wonkybot Studios, including the girl-powered Tara Tremendous franchise, the supernatural Spooky Troop series, the uplifting The Owlsteins, and the supervillain comedy The Dr. Epicopolis & 1102 Show of Shows. Stewart is also the creator, writer, director, and co-composer of the teen audio thriller series Origins Unknown and the forthcoming Historynauts, along with several other series in development. As a composer, music producer, songwriter, lyricist, and Recording Academy (GRAMMY®) voting member, Stewart integrates music deeply into all his original works.
He adapted Tara Tremendous into a stage musical, co-composing 20 original songs with music partner Michael Plahuta. The production was performed as a live musical concert at 54 Below in NYC, featuring Micky Dolenz (The Monkees), Annie Golden (Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black), and numerous Broadway stars. Stewart has also penned the film adaptation of Tara Tremendous, currently in development with Marc Platt Productions, with Stewart and Michael composing 14 new songs for the project.
