Lyudmila Gurchenko was a renowned Soviet actress from the 1950s to the 1980s, best known for her roles in Carnival Night (1956), Five Evenings (1979), and Siberiade (1979).
Born Lyudmila Markovna Gurchenko on November 12, 1935, in Kharkov, Ukrainian Soviet Republic, USSR, she studied acting at VGIK (the Soviet State Institute for Cinema), graduating in 1956 under Sergey Gerasimov. That same year, she gained widespread fame with her outstanding portrayal of singer Lenochka Krylova in Eldar Ryazanov's Carnival Night.
Throughout her career, Gurchenko worked alongside prominent Russian actors such as Oleg Borisov, Sergei Shakurov, Aleksandr Abdulov, Oleg Basilashvili, Mikhail Boyarskiy, Igor Ilyinsky, Yuriy Nikulin, Armen Jigarhanian, Oleg Tabakov, Stanislav Lyubshin, Andrey Mironov, and Aleksandr Mikhaylov.
Gurchenko was married five times and had one daughter with her first husband, Boris Andronikashvili. She passed away from pulmonary failure on March 30, 2011, at the age of 75 and was buried in Moscow, Russia.
